-A clean surface to put the records on (their cardboard sleeves)
    -Two hands

    good post,
my sister works in a lab and found a decent recipe for cleaner, made me 2 litres of it!

i think its just 50/50 distilled or de-ionised water and isopropyl alcohol,
you can put a few drops of fairly liquid in it if you like but i think the alcohol cuts the grease fine,
get a travel spray bottle from boots and some micro fibre cloths, you can pick them up from poundland now i think and work well to get in the grooves.

that's exactly how I do it,
I started recently using pure isopropyl alcohol but I decided to add about 10% of distilled water just to avoid it evaporatin that quick,
the result is pretty good I must say,
some records which jumped, and I thought it was because of groove damage just got fixed, grease gets solved in alcohol quite easily and then with a needle pass they just get removed... sometimes it is only old dust which makes skipping or jumping

    Interesting stuff!

Ive found lighter fluid works well or just plain old warm water + washing up liquid

Put loads of woodglue on your vinyl and let it spread all over (except the sticker). leave it to dry , then peel it back.

It takes ages to do cos you've got to let dry, but it get all the crap out of the grooves. No scratches from dodgy cloths and dust.

    record cleaner

I have always used the stuff that they sell in HMV, it managed to remove a 2 year old beer stain from a record which had been on there from a night out where someone was slighly too animated with their pint in their hand while I was spinning. I had written the bit of vinyl off but just kept it in the collection. 2 year later and some hmv cleaner and the record came up like new!

does your sister really work in a lab or did you just add that to make it sound more scientific?
