am i allowed all 3?![]()
a, c, and e (a pitch chaser), not so much of a nipple twister myself
Hey I'm aceyeah baby

i use a combination of all 3 depending on how the vinyl feels on the platter...if the hole is a little large i'll use the edge of the platter or the spindle to adjust the speed, or my preferred method is using a finger nail on the label. both all used in conjunction with a little pitch fader adjust if required
"Pitch Bender" sounds a bit suspect !!!
.... Ooh Matron !!!!

never really considered the "finger nail flick" must investigate that further, I could imagine that could be a somewhat unscientific method, as you have no feeling as such in your actual finger nail
spindle squeezer/spinner myself mainly, but quite hard going on a technics 1200
for fine to medium adjustments, where you want no giveaway pitch change using your fingernail is spot on. you'd be surprised.
all of my records have grubby marks or worn down around the hole from years of abuse. i'm not ever gonna sell them so it doesn't matter to me, as long as they play ok i'm happy.
i do all three as well. swings and roundabouts. i remember DJ Sam from milwaukees, he was a pitchmaster. a minute or two in his headphones then bang out with long mixes without touching the platter, ever. to pull that off every mix was impressive to me in 91, and still is now.
Remember seeing Sasha BITD and he listened to the other deck in his cans, adjusted the pitch without touching the deck at all, then cue a perfect mix.
He said that he mixed in key![]()
It's interesting you say about just using the pitch. A lot of "professional" Dj's wouldn't be seen to touch the deck atall only the pitch, as they would look like an amateur. I know for a fact Jumping jack frost will under no circumstances touch the record or platter, which would explain his sometimes ropey mixing![]()
Yup, sometimes I'd wonder if he'd even cued the bugger up
Posted before, I'll post it again, had an old tape rip where he's mixing Roni Size's "The Calling" with that mah-oosive horn sample and needed to adjust the pitch so what does the bell end do? Yup, make it sound like the deck needed some new batteries
Absolutely criminal mix that one![]()
i slow down on the side of the platter with pitch adjustment and speed up using my hand on record also using pitch adjust......and it seems to have done me just fine over the years.
man what a scientific question !!
although mixing my way i find u have to take the platter off your turntable to give it a good clean once in a while, plus i always find i can scrape half ounce of weed of the side of my platters
on the plus side i have nice clean finger tips
i never thought it would look ameaturish touching up ya vinyl by other djs !! to be honest if thats the case why use vinyl and why be a DJ![]()
always been utterly bemused by the aura that surrounds mixing in key/tune...especially when done by sasha. any dj worth their salt does it as a matter of course, otherwise stuff sound clashes even if the beats are spot on... simply the difference between a mix and the right mix imo
on the matter of not touching the vinyl during a mix...if you're having to do that a lot then your pitch is off. you should only touch to correct a slightly mistimed drop. a tip if you find the tune you are bringing in is out and needs to be pitched, and that pitching would be really obvious, is to fiddle with the outgoing record instead....you can sometimes get away with utter murder if you do that and the trainspotters never notice as they're too busy looking at the new record on the other deck![]()
