i'd avoid the mp3s and stick to full audio...and just put as many tracks on as you can fit...good labelling is essential!

    or

just put one record (with all the tracks from the vinyl) onto one disc. that way you can feel 'oldskool' by having to furiously flick through your discs to find a tune.

im waaaaaaay to clever for you lot

Seeing as pedantry seems to be very fashionable at the moment, can I point out the obvious grammatical errors in the above statement....

It's always handy if your CDJs have USB capability. You can pretty much compile your entire mix from a couple of USB sticks.

I'd make a data disc (CD) & you can fit upto 700mb's of MP3's on to it & as mentioned above, label them well... So you can find them easily

Also mentioned is if your CDJ's have USB ports, that will give you unlimited amounts of tracks at your disposal (limited to the size of the flash drive/memory stick)... 16gig's should be plenty for 320 MP3's... But for WAV's you'll only fit about 70-80 odd full vinyl rips on it...

    Have you got Nero?

If not i'll send you a copy of what i use via a link (it's 7.10.1.0), it's an old copy but it works... I tried a newer version but couldn't figure out how to make it work, so stuck with what i know.

I use Nero to burn DVD data discs (for all my music) which is also backed up to 2 different hard drives & it's brilliant

But for using CD data discs, it's a peice of piss with Nero & the benefit is you get shitloads of tracks on one disc compared to upto 20 on a single disc.

yeah, id deffo just go with the "one vinyl-one cd" idea, i even just put single tracks on, that way you never have that "oops, wrong track" or having to flick thru 100 tracks on a cd to find the one you want.also the indexing can be a pain not to mention reading a list of 100 tunes in a club with low lighting etc etc.
cant go wrong with one or two tracks per cd with big black marker pen on it.
i even know people that will work out a mix, then burn a cd for each cdj, then play track 1, track 2, track 3 etc etc.....for me that sounds like a total chore and takes all the fun out of it.

Before putting loads of tracks on a data CD do a quick test burn, make a data CD with one track on it and test it out. Not all CD decks can play data CD's as they're more for PC's. Like someone once said "you can't play a DVD on a VHS Recorder, so why do you think you can play a data CD on a CD player?".

My advice for the amount of tracks is if you're using them to mix then putting a lot of tracks on the CD can take up a lot of time when searching for the track you want to play, stick to 5 or 6 for faster access to the tracks, plus you can write the entire tracklist on the actual CD that way

I used to do that - but after countless cd wallets with similar looking cd's they tend to blend in to each other!!

I still think that option is the king as you would mix like you would on vinyl - you cant play both sides of a vinyl at once for instance - but make sure you make the cd's stand out or memorable in some way so you can tell which is which!

I've had a rethink on this as i've now got some Numark CDX's... What i'm doing is working out my mix then burning 2 audio CD's... The first disc has the tracks labelled & numbered 1,3,5,7 etc & the second disc is labelled & numbered 2,4,6,8 etc

This is what I do now. I plan my mix then just burn the tracks to two CD's (unless it's an improvised mix). Saves swapping and changing the CD's

I kept forgetting to reply to this thread...shame on me.

Well as you know CD's are what I predominantly mix with now and this is how I do things.

I put on track on 1 CD, this includes the remixes of the track and that's it. I don't have one CD with multiple tracks and artists. I like to keep things very organised.

I have CD folders which are now by years and all the CD's are in alphabetical order by Artist, so it's easy to find stuff. Every one of my tracks are also on my PC in the same order. By year and Artist.

well i have now adopted the two tracks per c.d instead of my usual 12ish,it may cost slightly more buying c.d's but i reckon it will make my dj cd's more personal and will be able to flip through my collection easier

    well thats the plan [-O
