    Interesting....

On Saturday night in a club with a decent sound system I did the sound checks.

So thought I'd whack on some mp3's in order of bit rate just to experiment. Surprisingly a good 128k didn't sound too bad! Obviously the more you went up the better it sounded. A good clean 320k is ample to play on a big rig. My set was totally wav's and they sound the best but I could have easily got away with 320's or even less.

I tried some poor sounding 320's and they sounded absolutely shocking - muffled, distorted, and just crap.

Moral to this post is, if you're gonna rip tunes, make them nice, clean rips and job's a good un.

Plenty of DJ's (and big name ones) play MP3's these days.

I'm talking about the Trance scene and some massive events as well with up to 10'000 people there.

Sure it's great to have a WAV of your file when possible, I always buy WAV's from trackitdown, but MP3's from other stores like Audiojelly and they sound fantastic.

When I last DJ'ed live in a club, which was in China, it was a pretty big club with a very hefty sound system and all the stuff I played was from 320 MP3's and it sounded crystal clear.

    That's good to know Curly

But i have to say a lot goes by the quality of the ripping in the first place - if you buy 320s from online stores they are fine as they are not ripped from vinyl which is why i think they are better quality 320s then those ripped from vinyl.

But i have noticed that wavs do actually sound better

320's should be passable in a club. I can't imagine a type of club where have people would walk out of the door because the bitrate on the mp3 was slightly lower than wav lol

What a shocking place that would be.
