    Horses for courses pal.

Even though VDJ is the simplest interface (and my personal choice), it may be worth your while to take a look at Serato, Traktor and Ableton amongst others

Do you want a hardware mixer still, because then you're going DEEEEP?!

Hopefully Haze will contribute to this thread as I know he went all digital and soon after went back to his trusty black wax...

serato all the way for me...

wax is just wayyyyyy too expensive, takes up too much room, gets scratched/stolen/warped etc etc etc.

with serato... you are playing and mixing vinyl innit.

but as swippa sed.... horses fa courses...

if ya wanna degrade ya existing wax... or go broke buying more.... stik to vinyl

I went for Traktor Scratch Pro via a certified 4 channel mixer with the soundcard built in so I can switch between vinyl and digi as I like.

If I was buying again now I'd probably buy Traktor Scratch Duo 2 and the upgrade to Pro or Serato SSL3 to integrate with TTs and a mixer, if you've got those already.
NI have a deal on their S4 atm, for the month they're throwing in an upgrade to TSP and timecodes. It was hard to beat imo without the TSP upgrade if you're looking for an all in 1 controller setup, as it normally ships with Traktor Pro so it offers particulary good value with the upgrade deal atm.

I've tried Serato & it was bloody awesome... But i couldn't afford it so went down the mp3 mixer route & got a Numark Mixtrack Pro & use it with Virtual DJ 7 Pro & it's pretty good

mixvibes cross will work with any soundcard and sounds less digital, not many people know about it, and it's half the price,,

serato is a rip off, 600 quid

    hehe my favourite subject!

if you're serious about your djing and want the experience to be as close to actual vinyl as possible then serato is the way to go. it's the industry standard for a reason, same way technics were for years.

think of it like serato is a pair of 1210s, everything else is a set of belt drive soundlab's (intimidation touch being more like a set of tandy specials)

fuck djing mp3s though, wav or nothing when it comes to digital imo...but lets not start me off on that one again [-O

serato scratch live and rane SL1 , SL2 Digital Vinyl Systems have never been £600 ???
the SL4 is the expensive one but that isnt a standard DVS.
it's one of the most stable/reliable DJ MP3 mixing hardware/software combos there is.

you'll find that the cheapo versions are riddled with bugs, sticker drift and latency problems
as most people have discovered. But it's horses for courses if you think your gonna get better
stability and performance for half the price then go for it but dont say you wasnt warned.

    Rane

    Rane SL1 is £349.00
Rane SL2 is £349.00 same price

    Native Instruments
traktor scratch DUO 2 DVS £299.00
traktor scratch PRO 2 DVS £499.00

Note: on professional midi controllers with serato itch or traktor 2
if you decide to go down this route make sure that you have a powerful up to date computer
as they are cpu / memory vampires.

    hope this helps ...

    ie. get a mac

i recommend the same if you want to run serato or any other dvs. it's just so much more solid on a mac...and it's fekkin good on windoze these days i hear.

i sold mine but freely admit that at some point i will pick it up again...still got so many ideas for sets from that format...more live set than a regular dj set...

Savile claims to be the first ever DJ according to his autobiography, the first person to use two turntables and a microphone, which he did at the Grand Records Ball at the Guardbridge Hotel in 1947. Savile is widely acknowledged as being one of the first in England and the world to use twin turntables for continuous play of music, thus pioneering the concept of DJing as we know it today

duz make me laugh when people bang on about 'original dj set'......

espeshly after seeing what the ORIGINAL RAVE DJs are doin and using

And im pointing at people like Carl Cox, Tyree Cooper, etc etc etc..... even Trix @ the source.... 1st dj i ever seen turn up to play at a party without records or cds

but pulled off not only a pretty good set by turning knobs and pressing buttons.... the effects he was usin bought it all up to date.

though im sure Sir Jimmy got slagged of for using vinyl and not having like bands play back then

I use a mac doesnt make much difference system spec wise the magic is in the operating System.
[OSX] btw dont get confused DVS systems ie. [timecode] are all fine when it comes to cpu and memory usage they run with ease and no fuss and you can multitask with out any preformance issues.

How ever the newer Pro Midi Controllers that use [HID Midi] instead of [timecode]
    that use "serato itch" or "traktor 2" software;
    ie. Pioneer DDJ T1 , Pioneer DDJ-S1 , Numark NS6 , Numark NS7 , Numark V7 ect.. ect..
use lots of CPU Power and require top preformance systems to run to full specifications.
the software is coded different and every moving part from the platter to the start stop button
sends millions of information back and forth to the cpu via the usb.

just wanted to clear that up before anyone gets confused!
