    Production Compo Entries Nov-Dec 2011

** VOTING IS OVER - CHECK BELOW FOR RESULTS **

First of all, a big thanks to everyone that's taken part.
Got a nice selection of tunes, so should be something for everyone

For the newcomers who've not voted before, here are the voting rules :

After downloading the tracks, have a listen to all the tracks & pick your favourite 3 & list them in this thread:

    (Example)

    1st - Track 1
    2nd - Track 2
    3rd - Track 3

You can also comment on what you liked / didn't like about them, or comments on other tracks that you think should be said.

Just don't put any comments which are likely to offend. Nothing wrong with a bit of constructive criticism, but don't be outright nasty.

There have been a few new producers who've sent some tracks in so don't want anyone put off future compos by nasty comments.

And don't worry if you don't get any / many votes - I've been in compos before and had no votes, but it hasn't stopped me

Next rule is who can vote - anyone who has been a member since before the compo started & has at least 25 posts can vote.

No voting for your own track - obvious, but gotta be said.

    Ok, that's about it

Download Link for the entries :

    ** Removed

I've up'd everything at 96kbs mp3 - main reason is that hopefully some of these will be coming out on future releases, so didn't want to up high quality versions.

Finally - voting ends when I get on the pc Monday morning (12th Dec).

    Hope you enjoy the tunes

Just one quick question RG - when playing the tracks - the name on Winamp tallys with all but two - Track 3 shows up as "96khz - low quality - 6" and Track 6 shows up as "96khz - low quality - 3".

So do i go by the track numbers by the actual file or the end number on Winamp?

Christ on a bike... what on earth was in that sample pack? Had to hide behind the sofa listening to some of those tunes, where's all the piano's & melodies...?

Anyway, didn't take long to make my mind up... I only like 2 of them!

1st: Track 10 (sounds very JMT in style, could be way off though)
2nd: Track 5 (heavy as fook, sounds like a Doc Scott - NHS remix)
    3rd: ???

I'll have a think about the 3rd one...

Fair play to everyone for getting involved though... I'm officially blaming RG for the gunshot theme!

Firstly i want to congratulate everyone on their efforts!!

I have had a listen to all the tracks and there are so many that i like!!

My thought's on some of the tunes so far -

Track 1 - I thought it was a bit slow and there wasn't enough going on to keep me interested but still it flowed well.

Track 2 - I really liked this tune! I loved the different acid riffs

Track 7 - Out of all the tunes - this one had the wow factor for me and made the hairs stand on the back of my neck - a quality track all the way through for me.

Track 11 - I quite liked the first part of the tune - i loved the piano!!! - It was just a pity it wasn't used anymore in the latter half of the tune. I found the tune in the latter half quite repetitive.

I could have voted for a load more but i unfortunately could only pick 3 - sorry

    My votes -

    1st - Track 7
    2nd -Track 10
    3rd - Track 8

    All those evil sci-fi samples

I'll try more of a mixture next time, but of course depends on who enters & who can actually play the piano.

    Like eurovision this
    Right, my 3 tracks are

    1st number 8.
If fantastic Ibiza remixed pennywise this is how it would probably sound, couldn't fault it, top tune

    2nd number 9.
"arent you tired of living in darkness" really liked the sounds used in this tune especially the pads, good arrangement, good intro, good beats, good tune,

    3rd number 6.
There was a few I was going to pick third but went for this just because of the vibe of the tune and the beats, also liked the hook hiding in the background of the tune, never really went anywhere and had a few too many vocal samples thrown in, a good tune in there somewhere. probably needs remixing

    some good tunes in there

    1st - 9
    2nd - 2
    3rd - 10

wasnt as keen on the ones using predator samples as heard them in loads of tunes already, overall though it was very difficult to pick just three as the standard was extremely high this time around and i rated pretty much all of them tbh.

Assuming the artists are ok with it expect to see a load of these on paranoid recordings vol 6 - nice work peeps!

Ok here are my random (harsh) thoughts as I listen to them.......

    1. I was expecting something more to happen around 1.38 the bit that comes in at 1.51 would have been good there I reckon. It feels all very dark which is good but its all a bit samey all the way through could do with a few more breaks and bigger drops I reckon.

    2. Immediately I like the bass sound, 4hero drumloop sounds alright maybe a bit slow, acidic break is nice, like the backwardsy bass bits just before 2 minutes, strings are dark, new acid bit is cool, and the sub coming in is cool, next acid bit at 3.40 is heavy and gets better as it goes along, good tune.

    3. Some good weird noises in the intro which is always a plus, ok I'm a bit bored of the intro now, here we go some drums at 1.40 needed them sooner I think, drums at 2.20 are better but maybe a bit weak, drum bits at 2.33 sound a bit out of time to me, like the stabby bass at 3 minutes, drums at 3.25 are a lot stronger and better maybe they should have been used earlier, oh no here come the out of time echoey drums again, once they're gone the next drums are much better again. Get rid of the echoey drums and use the good ones it'll be a much better tune I reckon.

    4. Like the drums straight away, oh yes here we go bit at 48 secs is doing it for me, all good liking it, sound at 2.30 is a bit too trumpety somehow but its a nice enough break and when the drums quick again its good, scratching bit is cool, all in all a good tune.

    5. Drums are ok in the intro, vocal is odd but different and goes well looping over, bass sound is nice and rough, drop at 1.18 is cool and we're rolling......, sub is awesome wasn't expecting that and I like it, stab sound is a bit too weak compared to the rest of it, stringy bit is cool, and we're rolling again, next different bit fits well and is keeping me interested, hoover is cool, yeah top stuff.

    6. Familiar intro sounds plus other bits which is cool, drums etc all good, like the phazing at 1.10, all a bit too the same now, theres the sample we've been waiting for "fucking voodoo magic man" , some good stuff well produced and put together just not enough going on for me.

    7. Like the slow down effect at 8 seconds, and drums are good, like the scratchy slow down bit at 52, the stabs are a bit odd maybe not a strong enough sample but its ok, break at 144 is cool, could see myself rushing to the bit at 2.05 and the kills your brain cells sample helps even more - awesome, bit at 3.20 is fucking wicked and making me buzz, and keeps getting better, best of the lot so far, love it.

    8. Intro sounds are nice, first drums are a bit weak, the bassdrum helps, amens are better, jingly bits are good, stabs are good at 1.40, starting to realise now that this is all very Pennywise which is cool, and gets better as it goes long builds nicely, good tune and a good homage to a classic.

    9. Nice intro and yes I am a bit tired of living in darkness after listening to all of these so far lets hope this is a bit happier, drums are strong, the spinny speedy up drop bit is cool, bass sound is good, odd noises are cool, bit at 2.15 is pretty heavy, its making me bod about so its good I like it.

    10. Nice intro some drum and bass here we go...., strings and jingley bits are nice and the female vocal goes well, bassline is nice and growly, I like the bit just before 3 mins where the bass goes up, yep all good stuff the outro is cool too, good tune well produced.

    11. Cool to begin with, piano is really really really good and making me smile, the weird bit after that is weird in a good way, but its going on too long, next bit is alright, wheres the piano come back please!!! its not coming back, oh well, some good ideas in there but needs some better structuring and more more more of the piano!!

So my favourites in Miss World order,

    In third place number 9

    In second place number 5

and just edging it in the swimwear section in first place is number 7.

Some awesome tunes look forward to finding out whose is whose. Hope I haven't been too harsh there, I just always follow the advice of Roy Walker - "say what you see"

Here's my tuppence worth on these.

1/ Track #7 - Very 'rushy' this one as mentioned by a previous voter. Kinda reminds me of 'Chimera's 'Deeper Life' on Back 2 Basics with the synths, but done in a 1993 stylee.

2/ Track #2 - Love the acid bassline and those Hard-steppin' breaks on this. And those heavy Basement/Nebula II style bass throbs.

3/ Track #4 - Like the chopped up amens and the scratching compliments the track nicely too.

As said previously, all tracks are top-notch and am very envious of you all for being able to convert your ideas to sounds. 'Nuff respects!
