Renoise 2.5.1 (RENOISE USERS - PLEASE READ)

Just installed this as i wanted to progress a bit further into making tunes... Jesus christ, that's going to take some time to get my head round

I remember the good old days of my PS2 with Music Generator & music 3000 i used to spend hours, even days making my own beats & riffs, but i knew how to do it on them

I loaded a demo track on Renoise & still can't figure out how to play it to see what happens

Pain in the arse this is. Everyones got different versions & the compatibility between them is a bit poo.

I've got an old mate who's always bragging about he can get everything and its dog so hopefully he'll come up trumps with a newer one we can all get on

I use Renoise 2.5.1 - there should be a play button on the top left of your screen Leon - but maybe the file isn't compatible with Renoise

Personally I wouldn't even try to learn it, invest your time into learning Cubase instead

Cubase is far too complicated even just to get a sample loaded up!
Might be ok for a proper studio, but for quick tinkering, renoise is far easier.

    I have a cunning plan....

Seeing as there are now a good few of us using it, why don't we chip in and buy a legal copy between us?
Price seems to be about £59.34 when adding it to a basket on the renoise site.

If we can get 5 of us chipping in, it'll be about £12 each.
Even 4 of us would mean £15 each.
(Taking into account someone receiving paypal payments from the others).

At least that way everyone will be on the same version & can swap files.
I have made that vid showing the basics & can knock up some more to show people how to do other stuff.

I'm currently using someone elses, so would prefer my own copy, but can't really afford £60 for it all by myself.

    What do you lot reckon?

It's a simple "F5" to load up a sample. It's not too complicated at all it just seems it at first.

Last time I loaded up a version of cubase, you had to muck around setting all your channels up etc before you could do anything.
Does F5 just load up the sample, or do you still have to set everything else up first?

It depends really what you want to do with the sample, if you want to just add a kick for example just hit F5 to open the media browser and search your HDD for the kick you want and then it's a simple right click to add it into your track (they can be dragged and dropped too). Or if you want to use a sample for say a melody then you need a sampler like Kontakt. With DAWs though it all comes down to personal taste.

True - it's all about what your taste is, what you're used to etc.

But I had to upload this little vid just to show you how easy renoise is to do stuff.
    * Upload a sample, add an effect, make a 'rave' riff all in under 2 mins (while trying to hold a video camera ).

Obviously you need to have used the prog before, but it's just to show you how quick it is to load up stuff to get you going & create something within minutes.

Nice video. It's basically the same as any other DAW just a different way of doing things.

Yep, they all do pretty much the same thing. Just I'm so used to tracker style ones since using them on the atari & amiga back in the day, so this newer tracker was just a follow on from them.
I have tried cubase / FL / Ableton etc but none are as easy to get things done as renoise - for me anyway.

Ok, cheers to Puffa for the link :

Renoise - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

This is the version I'm using (non cracked) - V2.72

It's fully working aside from render to a wav file, but will help get you started to see if you like the prog & want to chip in to get the latest version.

Let me know if you grab it as only worth making a couple of new vids to help you out if you think you're gonna use it

I checked the Renoise site earlier and you can only buy from Version 2.8 now plus if i was to get it - it would cost 58 euros which would make a bit cheaper for those paying with sterling - if that makes sense

Going to see if we can sort a working copy out - 58 euros plus vat is the price (I tested it by putting it in the basket).

Plus with v2.72, the files load into my full version of 2.71 - so I can always render the files if we do get stuck.

From what I have found when you buy the full version of Renoise it registers to the user instead of the software. This make multi installs and upgrades easy as you simple need to know the username and password for that paid account. If you install 2.7.2 onto your system you by the upgrade to full version and you will be able to update all the way to 3.7.2. Once you hit that 3.7.2 you will need to buy a new round of upgrades. Between 5 of you this would be cheaper than a single purchase. I haven't found a single crack that has worked so far for the newer version.
Here I am! Now what are your other two wishes?

Oh - i didn't realise the VAT wasn't added - maybe we should stick with you buying the software RG then, as the VAT in Ireland went up today to 23%

That's great if you can render the files using the slightly older version of Renoise.

I have a question - i am currently using V 2.5.1 or V 2.5.2 and it's a full working copy but can i also install the demo v2.7.2 and have both versions on my system?

I would be willing to chip in...I can donate through Leon whose paypal addy I have.....I have the demo version but I have really not sat down and got to grips with it long enough....I just haven't really figured out what I want to do and how...I have seen some of R/G's demos and have gone that far but I just don't have enough variety of samples and sounds to create anything more than some mediocre or "Music 3000" style cut & paste effort with breakbeats!!!

I too had 2.5.1 (cracked) & just installed 2.5.2 Demo & can confirm that .1 still renders to wav & .2 doesn't, so it's just a question of loading the saved file from .2 into .1 & then rendering it, simples

I thought that the newer demo version would overwrite the previous working copy... But it didn't, so get on it Ms P like your husbands fat cock

Now i've just got to learn how to make a tune on the bloody thing

I'm currently going through all of the samples i have & putting them into categories & renaming some of them to make it easier to find a specific sample when i need it... It's taking a while though as there's maybe 100,000+ samples that i have that are labelled with shit like ZXY 1 to ZXY 200 & there's vocals, beats, stabs etc within that 200 samples that i have to listen to individually to identify where i need to put it & relabel it to

But you'll find loads in the music production section Col mate... Garry Bynon's just put a shitload up (over 7gigs)
