VDJ & Traktor - a big debate IMO, too cut and thrust for others.
I'm a big supporter of VDJ for the following reasons:-
Simple interface
Very clever bit of kit (e.g. I don't need extra software to stream my radio show - it all comes in the package)
Nice 'rawness' about it when connected to a bit of hardware
Certain versions are very stable.
The obvious points against it are how unprofessional it looks, but there are thousands of skins to touch it up cosmetically, and some of the later versions are liable to crashing.
I used Traktor once and was impressed with it, but it took the DJing element out of it if you know what I mean (it's bad enough "DJing" mp3s as it is

)... like it's sort of too technical, as is Ableton, although I'm pretty sure that China-Rising swears by it.
If you know what you like Thrash, then go for Traktor by all means; seems you're unimpressed with VDJ and I can see your point(s), but I don't think you'll ever get the real feel for DJing unless you're using Serato (which funnily enough, isn't about owning loads of vinyl but the
feel of using it), which when combined with a decent set-up you're probably looking at the best part of £2K
To be honest although you know I'll help you as much as I can, I half-arsed got back into DJing and chose the cheaper, simpler option of VDJ, a few bells & whistles and a
Numark Total Control (which I don't cheat with

) which is just right for my hardware needs, although Puffa keeps urging me to upgrade, I have to say I'm very content with my lot.
Curly's opinion here would be better as he's never mixed before, took it seriously, invested well with a lot of advice and look where he is today just 8 months down the line
@ dodders, I wouldn't mind having a looky-lou at this new Traktor business, any chance of a gander?
