So i got chatting to dude in the RRC last night about Serato etc he and pointed me towards this:

    Torq-DJ - The Official Website :: A Creative Revolution

He's had it 2 years and apart from the s/w being more basic than Serato reckon perfrmance-wise there's no difference. He's even played out with it a few times. Gotta say, the price-tag appeals a lot more than Serato!!

Any of u boys know anythin about it?

I've been biting my lip on the forum lately but I can't help it with this one dodders -

    IT LOOKS FUCKING SHIT!

We had a long discussion about how ropey VDJ looks - and that doesn't?

It's cheap for one reason mate

Got to agree with Swipezster here Dodders.

The way to look at it is this...

Don't think of the money when buying equipment, just think of it as an investment. You want something which will give you years of enjoyment. Something you know was worth it and where the possibilities are more or less endless.

Get the best in it's class. If it's a controller, get the best and of course the best isn't always the most expensive.

Thought what u thought fella - with that price-tag how could it not be? Then spent an hour reading reviews, watching YT etc and the general concensus was h/w was on a par with Serato but the s/w let it down a bit.

On the bright side i think i've found a shop where i can get a test of this, Serato & the Traktor system all under on roof.

Must say tho - i'm edging towards the Traktor kit. I don't need the full 4-deck package and i already know the s/w. This is what i'm talking about:

NATIVE INSTRUMENTS : HOME | HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE FOR MUSICIANS, PRODUCERS, DJS, GUITAR AND BASS PLAYERS

    'traktor is FAR more proffesional'

I honestly dont get that. But VDJ doesnt crash for me unless I use non-approved effects.
The look of VDJ is a little more simplistic, but so what. Technics 1210s are simple.

EDIT: ok, been messing around with Traktor and I'm starting to see where you're coming from

The software in that video above isnt normal Traktor, is it.
Is it specially for the S4??
I couldnt see the sample slots etc in Traktor.
Anyone know if it is out yet??

    ah
'Traktor Kontrol S4 combines a special version of the Traktor Pro software'

    maybe they'll release it?

Looking at the vid again, the two features I like are
    1) multiple cue buttons
    2) sample slots shown on the same front page

VDJ samples are crap as you cant cue them first I dont think

for 2) i've thought about running it with my software app for samples, but not sure I could get it all in sync for loops?

    I've tried both.

Dude, i've also used both and my belief is that Traktor is more professional than VDJ - and i don't remember VDJ ever crashing for me either. I believe i've managed to turn an ardent VDJ user recently to my train of thought.

If you're talking about the S4 vid, then yes that s/w has been built around Traktor Pro specifically for the S4. Apparently the release date is 1st November.

    1st Nov - nice.

Just been messing around with Traktor.
I'm warming to it. It isnt as intuitive as VDJ, so thats probably what's put me off.

Just in case anyone's bothered, i got me kit. Took on board everyones advice, weighed it all up, then ignored the lot of ya.

Ended up going or the Traktor version:

NATIVE INSTRUMENTS : HOME | HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE FOR MUSICIANS, PRODUCERS, DJS, GUITAR AND BASS PLAYERS

Reasons were, i already know/like the software, the timecode vinyl is supposed to be better than Serato and fact its a 4-deck setup does give room for expansion

Not messed around on it too much and its still not set up exactly how i want it but first impressions - its fekkin awesome!!

Just wish i hadn't, in a fit of paranoia, got rid of all my playlists when i deleted the illegal copy. Its taking me ages to find everyting again.

    Only just seen this thread.

I looked into it a lot when I got Serato Dodders and it was either Serato or Traktor. Wise choice not to go with M-Audio, I tried it and it was shite.

Only reason I went for Serato over Traktor was my mate has it and had a few goes on it.

Its class mate - i'm sooo impressed. Even the missus said she wants a go. Tho when she mentioned it last night she'd had an absolute skinfull and i weren't letting her near it for love nor money.

Its also the reason the recording of your show fekked up on Thursday - like i said, a few teething problems. All good now tho.

Nice choice dodders, pleased for you

I'm currently in the middle of switching over to Traktor but have yet to find the time to work out how it will read my Midi device (as dicussed on the phone).
Actually, thanks for reminding me, I have a couple of days off Monday & Tuesday without the usual distractions ( ), watch this space...
