    traktor scratch v serato

Does anyone use any of the mentioned as i'm fed up of using cdj's or mp3 mixer controllers to have a mix. still got my 1210's and vinyl that never get to see much daylight now days. i've ripped all my oldskool vinyl over to digital format over the years and although it saves the vinyl it just aint the same, so i'm on the verge of buying either or so i can have the best of both worlds and make it feel like hands on once more. i've read various write about both and both sound close, serato favoured in u.s where as traktor in europe, traktor has a slight better sound to it where as serato seems to be easier to set up and use.

    anything else i should know?

    cheers.

I use Traktor Scratch Pro with 1210's mate and absolutely love it!

The differences between the 2 are minimal I think, they both do the same thing, it just comes down to which software interface you prefer using/looking at. I have read in the past that the Traktor box/soundcard is better quality and higher spec than the Serato box (Traktor uses a 24 bit soundcard while Serato is only 16 bit) although with the latest version of Serato they might have upgraded the card. Either way it's impossible to tell the difference just by ear.

I don't know what format you've ripped your vinyl to, but I save all mine as FLAC to save space. Serato will not play FLAC files but Traktor will, so if you have lots of FLAC files you would need to convert them all to wav or MP3 to play in Serato.

    Thanks guys,

I think i'm going toward traktor scratch 2 as like mentioned it does all formats plus has the ability to hook 4 decks, cdj's and decks up at the same time. also i do like a bit of native instruments software so i have faith in them.

    bring on the Traktor

Another happy Traktor Scartch Pro user here ........ on the whole

Beatgridding old rips can be a mare. If you don't know, Traktor uses a single tempo grid for the beats which is constant thoughout a track so if the tempo changes or fluctuates then the grid will be off and hence some FX and some of the auto stuff Traktor can do will be off too. You can set multiple grids incase a breakdown ends off beat or whatever but you only get 1 tempo per track. As a work around I tap in the tempo when I need it if the track's a bit wobbly.
Never update it without checking their forums 1st The latest update changed some midi commands and stopped timecode control for me so I've rolled back to the previous version now.
Their support sucks, it took them 2 months to reply to my email. They're v.nice and accomodating when you do get a reply, but they're rediculously slow.

Other than that I'm v.happy with Traktor. The timecode response, audio quality through my Mackie D4 Pro Traktor Cert mixer, and midi mapping abilities within the software are spot on.
