What Are The Best MP3 Mixers?

I am currently considering buying another mp3 mixer - but there are so many on the market.

I currently have a Hercules DJ Control MP3 e2 - it was cheap and cheerful but i am put off as you need to buy a seperate soundcard for the headphones.

I want to upgrade to a better mp3 mixer with a built in soundcard - i checked other Hercules products, Numark and M-Audio etc but i need your opinions on mp3 mixers you have used or are currently using.

I don't have any turntables so don't recommend Serato or Traktor Pro

    So what are your thoughts?

I'd be willing to spend around £400 or a little more if i'm persuaded by the features

I'm saving up so i won't get one for a while - but i want to do my research before hand

I saw these but they are way out of my price range - £1249 - unless of course i win the lottery

    Numark NS7FX Controller with Effects

ive got a numark v7 it's a good controller like that NS7 but beware of ITCH Software
if your computer isnt high spec. I Wouldnt recommed it to anyone with a low end computer as it will struggle to run properly. You need to be looking atleast a intel i7 cpu and 4gb of ram for true latency performance.

I've got a Numark Mixtrack Pro (as you probably know by now) with built in soundcard & at 1p shy of £170 it's not bad, it does a fair bit of good stuff... But i can't get the mic to work through it... Going to have a play & see what happens (i've had some helpful advice on here about it).

It's like having Virtual DJ but you can touch it instead of using a mouse

Does it have to be an all in 1?
How many channels are we looking for?
Which software are you going to use with it?

The VMS4 and VCI 100 (and a separate sound card) are worth a look.

I want an all in one mp3 mixer with jog wheels as i don't have a seperate mixer - channels i'd say four and i will be using virtual dj software - something that will allow me to listen through my headphones to cue tracks without hearing it on the speakers.

The American Audio mixer doesn't look too bad and the Vestax mixer is ok the only thing that puts me off the Vestax mixer are there are no LED lights so i can check the channels aren't too high etc

EDIT - forget what i said about the LED lights - it would show up on the software

I think the VMS4 is the only 1 in that price range with 4 channel faders.
Controllers with only 2 faders like the VCI 100 can still be used for 4 decks tho with a bit of midi jiggery pokery altho if you've got decks A & C for example on the left side using the same controls and want to mix between them can be a bit fiddly, if you get me? To get around that problem I mapped my BCD2000 as a rotary style mixer using the 4 knobs across the top as faders and their corresponding buttons as pfl/cue controls.

Thinking about it, I'd just get a good ASIO soundcard for now like an NI Audio2 to get the most out of the Hercules and build up from there when you know the features you're actually using in the software or the features you're struggling to access with the Hercules. Once I got into it I found there is no such thing as an all in 1 controller as different people want to use the software differently, so you'll probably end up buying another controller to add to the setup anyway.

Traktor's waaaay better than VDJ btw

Well come to think of it i will only need 2 channels as i will not be getting decks - so no point having 4 channels - so any decent 2 channel mixer with a built in sound card for the headphones is what i am looking for really

I haven't used Traktor before - but i find Virtual DJ ok - i might get myself a copy of Traktor to see if it's any good

The above looks decent, but no jogwheels?

Have to say I'm liking that Denon

Also, looking at the Mixtrack Pro, looks like an updated version of what-now-looks-very-old Numark Total Control and if I were you msprim, I'd give that a bash.

Leon, you need my number mate, I know how to get the mic working on VDJ
