    What DAW do you use?

Folks, what's your favourite DAW that you use for your musical creations?
there are so many around and all are so different, the first one I ever used myself was
ACID 1 which later became Sony Acid PRO, which I have version 6 and like to use.
(not very well, I would like to add)

So what are your favourite/DAW's sequencers to use and why?

Studio One for production. Audacity for recording and Acid Pro for touching up the odd volume level after the mix.

I use FL Studios 9, Always have done. Tried that Ableton Live didn't like the layout and couldn't be arseed to learn how to use it. Looking back I should have done as I'm going into college and its the "Industry Standard" alongside Reason and Pro Tools.

I'd never heard of that studio one software, did a google and watched a youtube video and it's supposed to be the bees knees,(simple and fast to use) which is the most important thing.might look into that programme, see what its like

Fruity Loops is very popular even though people slate it for being a micky mouse programme,, embarressingly I had a copy of version 3 spent a day trying to learn it and gave up, easy to use my arse
    ,gave up,

It really is. If you've used any other DAW then you'll be fine with Studio One. I recommend it 100%.

    My equipment.

Sampling - Wavelab, DAW - Reason 5, a few softsynts and midikeyboard.

I think the layout of the Reason is easy to master and when a new version arrives it isnt a whole new program to learn (small changes). To be able to wire the cables themselfs around fx, and other synths makes it even funnier. Also combining the rewire system letting me use the rebirth softsynth is amazing.
Recently I bought the BCF2000 with motorized faders - its fun and makes it even easier to control, volymes, etc.

All I miss now is time...

I have tried to use Reason and Fruityloops but i just can't get my head around it

The easiest software i have used is by Magix "Music Maker Edition 2" and it was cheap as chips - a simple drag and drop programme - you can do a few other things too but i haven't got that far yet

Sample editing - Adobe Audition (Formally Cool Edit)

Sequencing - Renoise (similar to Med / Octamed on the old ST & Amiga)

It's very quick for loading stuff up & getting straight into it, unlike these 'pro' things where u have to set channels up & crap.
Does look confusing to someone who's not used it before, but once you've been shown a few things, it's very easy & quick to use.

Have tried most of the others - FL, Cubase, Reason, Acid etc & none compare to this for speed of getting something done (and more importantly - ease of use).

One studio Logic and Komplete. The other Cubase and Komplete.

Wish I knew how to use either so just BASH buttons a bit.

With various out board analogue stuff thrown in.

Must read a manual one day.

i started using reason the got into a little bit of logic, i now use ableton live and find the work flow far more productive and has a simple graphic interface with most things easily assessable. how ever reason was a brilliant introduction into midi sequencing and piano roll editing, i would always swear be logic for its audio engine and multiband compressor's.

ableton has been the most enjoyable of the three to create music with and although it can bit a bit buggy its my preference

    big up

Don't know where to ask this plus I have no shame

    Picture the scene.

Its Friday 20th of November 1992.

We pass Windsor Castle while it burns to play upstairs at a Club that played mostly tosh.

We hoped we wouldn't and 2/3's into the set the self same club ask politely if we could turn the bass down a tad as they couldn't hear Right Said Fred.

Stuff was played mistakes were made. All of which were covered up by a mass chew. Mastication is very load up close.

    Good larf.

Heres the question what's a STABLE platform for a live set.

I don't want to take a 24" IMac as it will bounce off.

So it will be a PC based set. With some keyboard stuff thrown in.

Our samples no presets. You get the point.

I was going to ask how stable appleton was but NOOB proof please.

We want to have a larf and spend more time trying to find C then looking at a screen.

    Tangent over

I've changed to Cubase 5 now and I love it. I'd never change from Cubase to anything now apart from Logic maybe but I'm too poor to buy a Mac.

I started on reason, then bought sonar, I then tried a dodgy copy of ableton live 8, and love it!
I use reason as a big sampler, live 8 for making the track and sonar for a final mix/master.
I will one day buy ableton and scrap the others, it really is that good.

Cool Edit Pro / Audition and WaveLab for sample editing; Ableton Live and Renoise as DAW. Once you get your head around the basic principle of how a tracker works Renoise is a damn fine tool.
