I record using Audacity or on rare occasions Acid Pro myself. I think most people will be using Audacity or Soundforge.

I use Creative recording software. It came bundled with my Audugy Pro soundcard. I don't think you can download it or anything though. But it's damn good software for recording.

I don't think it matters what software you use to rip tbh, they all do the same job, which is to record the sound coming in as a wav file, the only way to get better quality rips is to buy a better quality sound card and/or better cartridges/needles/mixer if you're ripping from vinyl.

I used Audacity years and years ago to record mixes, but it had a 30 minute time limit so I binned it and never went back. After that I used Sony Soundforge, which is a great piece of software imo.

The difference between the different programs is the editing capabilities rather than the recording ones, Adobe Audition seems to be the favourite for editing tools like click/pop and noise removal that work the best. I don't like messing with my rips, if there is a really bad click/pop then I just draw it out with the pencil tool in Soundforge, I believe Audacity has the same tool. I've got Adobe Audition on one of my PC's, but I prefer using Sony Soundforge for ripping/recording mixes, that's mainly because I've been using Soundforge for so many years I've learnt how to use it, and cba to learn how to use Audition even though it is possibly better software, lol.

Audacity for recording, Adobe Audition for editing.
