trouble playing .WAV file in wmp

Tonight I am ripping an Amnesia House 4 pack I found in the box, I forgot I had it. But anyway..
This time I decided to rip as a .WAV file (16 bit 44khz) just to see if it made any difference to the quality of the rip, as the tapes are mint and sound mint. I've heard that .WAV files are less compressed and sound better.

But, once I set the file type (.WAV) to open in windows media player on Vista premium, the file plays OK. BUT as soon as i touch the progress icon on the player to move the file forward it just starts the file over again. and the ffd / rev buttons are greyed out so i cant use them. Is this normal
or should I just stick to into .mp3 and stop messing about with things I don't understand fully?

Update, gave up in the end with the .WAV format and have gone back to using .mp3
    format.

best advice is to stop using windows media player and install vlc (VideoLAN - VLC media player for Windows)

that'll solve your problem in a heartbeat

As well as installing the prog above, the only thing I can think of that could be causing an issue would be the filesize of the ripped wav file.
For individual tunes it's no problem, but a full mix off tape.... that's gonna be a big old file & could be causing the playback problems.
