What Do You Think Of Itunes?

I was just wondering what you all thought of iTunes.

I personally think it's shit!! I bought an Ipod Classic 160GB and i have had it for 10 months and i opened it last week
I started to use a program called Copytrans to transfer albums with the album art to my Ipod. I then decided to add a few music videos to my Ipod via iTunes and then my Ipod wouldn't sync and an error message came up. I go to Apple for help and i was told to restore my Ipod which i did and it seemed to solve the issue - all of 30 minutes and then it wouldn't sync again
So i went back to Apple and they said that i have to do something with one of the dll files - i thought sod that!! So i have restored my Ipod again and i have deleted Itunes from my computer for ever.

I am now using Copytrans and i don't have any problems.

So what do you think of Itunes and if you don't use Itunes what software do you use instead?

if you have an ipod why would you bother using another program to transfer music and album art to it...itunes does all that anyway and using it will allow you to get the most out of your ipod.

also itunes library layout and itunes dj function are spot on. a way better mediaplayer than most imo.

the best bit though is that you can rip all your stuff in apple lossless format which gives you all the benefits of uncompressed audio but with a file size comparable to mp3.

I say I hate everything Apple but the eldest has got an iPod for Xmas and I'm unsure of the mp3s she has on her laptop being transferred to this.

Right then, I want an idiot's guide:

The iPod will obviously come with some software CD that will I presume convert all mp3s into the Apple format (.aac???) so therefore everything I bang onto the lappy audio-wise will be automatically converted to the Apple-only format...

...or in reality it ain't that simple?

If you rip cds via Itunes it will convert to apple lossless but you can copy mp3 files to an Ipod anyway Swipezster.

Plus you just download the latest version of Itunes to your pc/laptop so you can add music - no software cd is included

stu : first off you need to install itunes on the pc. you have the choice to let itunes import and organise your audio files. if i were you i'd say no to that as you can just drag and drop everything straight into itunes later...thereby saving any unfortunate oddness caused by bad/missing id3 tags! once you've got all the audio/video into itunes and sorted the tags out you can go into prefs>advanced and click "keep itunes media folder organised" and life will thereafter be sweet.

when that's done connect the ipod to the pc via the usb cable and wait. itunes will detect it and do all the rest.

as for audio file format...go into itunes preferences and click on the import settings button in the general tab. you can now choose whatever format you want itunes to rip cds into the library. simples. the ipod (and itunes) will play a wide variety of formats (with the exception of wav) and doesn't convert existing files into any other format. so a 320mp3 stays just that. i prefer to rip apple lossless (not aac or aiff) for reasons i've stated before. if you want to be able to play your files in other players though (like serato) then stay with 320mp3.

one thing folks say a lot is that syncing their ipod deleted tunes from it. that's because you need to set the ipod sync for audio files to "manually manage music and videos" which is located on the ipod home page in itunes, down the bottom in the options section. that way you can put what you want on the ipod without itunes randomly filling the whole thing, erasing whatever was on there initially.

any probs on pressie day you have my number mate. feel free to call

    HATE ITUNES

Few years back I got my first ipod, a little 8gb one. I downloaded a load of MP3s and put them onto the pod. I then became short of hard drive space on my PC, so had to delete some files, which included these MP3s (Cause I thought they were safe on the ipod....) Anyways, soon after I plugged the pod back into the PC (And I had auto sync switched on) itunes then came up with about a thousand errors saying it could not locate the MP3s on the PC, so in turn it WIPED them all from the ipod too!!!!

Since then, I keep auto-sync off. Even if you do want to get some MP3s off of your ipod onto the PC, it's a MAJOR ball-ache !!!!!!!

This problem is negated if you don't delete the tunes from your Itunes in the first place....

I had my Ipod set to manually manage music and videos when using Itunes - it would stop copying stuff from Itunes to my Ipod half way through. I even tried to copy one thing at a time and still did the same.

I have used other people's Ipods on my PC and Itunes and i had no problems - it just my own Ipod i have problems with.

    Don't know why?

I don't know Phizzal - my mate's Ipod i used mainly Itunes to add music and then i switched to Copytrans and i had no problems. The other way round i'm not really too sure if i am honest.

You can get software to copy everything from your Ipod to your PC so if anything goes wrong when using Itunes at least you can copy everything back to your Ipod

phizzal : you can only use an ipod with one copy of itunes at a time, so yes, you will lose whatever is on your ipod when you connect it. it'll ask you first mind.

something like ipod rip can be used to get the contents over to your pc. then you can freely wipe it in itunes without worrying about any loss. not something i've done personally but mates have done it.

If its on my ipod, burnt to CD & backed up on DVD id rather have some disk space back, or fill that space with something else. If i kept everything i downloaded on my harddrive it would have been full a long time ago.

I have to use iTunes for my iDevice (iPhone in this case). I never listen to music or do anything else than synchronizing music and apps.

I never liked to use a full-screen software just to listen to music. And connecting devices to my PC should better be done with USB mass storage drivers than this proprietary shit apple is forcing the users to use.

Well, after being anti-Apple for so long....

I've had to eat my hat.

10 year old daughter had an iPod Touch for Xmas and I have to say I'm very impressed with it. iTunes is great with a simple interface with lots of nooks & crannies to explore if you want to. I like the fact that it automatically syncs whenever you connect a device and I was surprised - although in hindsight I don't know why I was worried about it - that I could drag all of my mp3s from the HD straight into the iTunes window. It's also fast, doesn't seem glitchy and I now want one too as we've got a dock for it on our living room stereo.

Many thanks to Mr. Haze for his advice last night after I told the missus he was an Apple-expert... she then quipped that she was a banana expert - make from that what you will, I've had to keep quiet
