    Dvd question?

I wonder if someone may be able to help.
I have a Dvd I want to load onto a laptop,
the disc is readable on another laptop but not the one I want to load it to. I have looked in "my computer" on the laptop where it is invisible and there is no sign of it on the drive there either.
What is the best way of loading this disc on to said laptop and is there some other way it may become readable on this drive. cheers.

The laptop you're having a problem with - does it have a dvd drive in it or just a cd drive?
Can't think of another reason why it wouldn't appear - well, aside from it being a really old model of dvd drive that for some reason won't read a modern disc.

Either way, you could rip it to the laptop that can read it & copy the files over using a usb stick I suppose - but you'd need dvd ripping software then.

thanks for the reply. The laptop has a dvd drive, It's quite old, also my desktop computer won't read it either, a newer laptop was able to read it, very strange.

how would I rip it? load it to the laptop that can read it and link the computers and send like that? what I know about computers you could write on a stamp

    This could be very tricky

If you know anyone that could rip it for you, it would be much easier.

There are a few programs that can take the information off the dvd & store it as a file / files onto the pc which can then be copied to the usb stick & then put onto the other pc.
But you really need to know a bit about pcs to be able to do it.
You'd need to download & install the progs (one runs in the background removing the protection from the dvd which the other program converts the info to files onto the pc).
You'd also need some sort of firewall to block these programs contacting the web.
Also the programs are a bit dodgy shall we say, so downloading them would mean checking for viruses etc. (also why you need them not to contact their creators websites).
So all in all, not quite as simple as it seems unfortunately.

Might be easier just to watch it on the laptop that can play it.

Is it a DVDR disc of some sort?
They're not all the same unfortunately.

Check the laptop DVD drives manufacturer website for a new firmware for the drive, there might be 1 to enable it to read more discs.

Otherwise as others have said, make an image of the disc on the machine that'll read it and transfer the image to the problem lappy by either burning it on media you know the problem lappy reads (different manufacturer DVDR) or copy the image file to a USB stick > copy image file from USB to the hard drive > mount the image file as it were a real DVD.

I dont think you can rip dvds if ur dvd drives is not working ...
In addition, if you'v fixed ur dvd drives and wanna rip dvds, Handbrake or DVD shrink are all free dvd ripping software, you dont have to pay for others ...
