Getting a Website on Google
Any ideas how to get your website found by google?
Basically our old work website / webname has gone (but still comes up in the searches) - I've made a basic new website with a slight alteration on the website domain (as couldn't use the old one) so now want this appearing on google rather than the old one (as the old site is dead & we don't have access to it - long story).
Anyone know how to help? (For free of course)
Cheers.

ok what you need to do is make sure you have the correct META tags in the header code for your website.
basically what they are is context sensitive words/phrases that will allow the bots that google et al use to search the web.
so if you were doing that for this site it'd be "oldskool" "hardcore" "rave" etc etc
it's pretty simple stuff tbh and any web designer worth their html should know about em.
once you've got those in place, you then need to start searching those terms, and getting anyone you know to search em too, and then find and click on the link to your site. the more search terms and click thrus you get, the higher up the google search list you'll get.
META tags are the key though as they'll be picked up pretty quick by all the bots and spiders google has crawling the web.
though they're by no means the only way to get up the rankings. click thrus is the big one for that.
hope that helps

You need to submit your site to the search engine (same with Bing, Yahoo etc). After a few days it will start to search your site for the Meta tags mentioned above.

tbh submitting isn't really required these days, especially with google.
search hits and click thrus is what does it. there are whole companies that just sit there and search and click, change ip, search and click, change ip, repeat to fade
once you have the new url RG get it to as many people as possible and get em to do just that a few times a day. wont take em long to notice you.

I've put some meta tags in the code, but even typeing in the company name just brings up links to the old site rather than the new one.
Here's the new site :
Visibility Lighting & Design
(old one was without the dash but that domain is no longer available to us to use)
If you view the source on the main page I've put loads of tags in there, but maybe too many??
Will try to Pm u later puffa - off out again now.
Cheers everyone.

Apart from the obvious which is things like meta tags and such, the easiest way to climb up the ranks is to advertise the site. I don't mean by buying your way into it, I mean having links to your site everywhere you post. Put it in your signature for instance on any site you post on, have it in your profile, have it on your FB account. The more places that the site is posted on, the more google will hit it.
Another one is having good content on your site that people on the net search for. Keywords are important for search engine bots because people search words and the more words relevant to your site, the more you will move your way up the rankings.
So to sum up,
1) Advertise the site address everywhere
2) Keywords and relevant content

Think one issue is all the text on the site is part of the image - think I need to re-arange all that so that it's actual text rather than part of the image as google won't see it.
I've got loads of relevant tags but not sure if I've got too many (check the source code to view).
Advertising is no problem - once the shop part goes live, it's going on Stavros Flatleys home page (as he's a director) and he's got about 2million followers, so that's a lot of people that might start clicking on it.
