Can't help i'm afraid fella - but i've had similar happen to me on other sites in the past. A couple of refreshes and/or a reboot usually sorted it.

I had Google Chrome but didn't like it... My other laptop (the one with the problem) is running Vista & it keeps bastard freezing all the time, i'm running a disc check on it now & seriously considering putting XP on it instead... But i've used the serial number more than 10 times, so need to find another serial

Could be a cookie problem ......... mmmmmm cookie
Try clearing your cookies and cache in the privacy options.

If Windows is acting up it could be a corrupted user account. You could try creating a new user account if clearing the cookies doesn't do the trick. Tbqh tho I'd sack Vista off in a heartbeat and install Windows7 or XP.
