had problems with a virus before, and in order to get to the problem i had to close some .exe files, Unlocker did the job, and i still use it (like in you case).

btw, i will check out the links that worked for your drive. If you got your hd fixed, maybe there's still hope for my old one.
Cheers for the Link Allan. I will check it out.

Luckily i've not had to use that software again, but it is ready and waiting just in case.

A little late now like but if anyone is interested I have an iso image of Hiren's Boot CD vol 10.2, which may well help in such circumstances...

I had this problem once aswell. Are your files still ok? Because when I did a recovery from the disk, some of the audio files were glitching... which kinda sucked.

I used NTFS getdataback back then...

I'm glad your problem got fixed though, 700 gb is a whole lot to lose :s

All the files were perfect. The drive itself was fine and now works perfectly after a format and disk check.

It just depends if you drive is on it's way out or becomes corrupt in any way.

You should never let your drive get that close to being full if it has that much important data, I'd say 75% is pushing it. Plus your data is never gone, until it has been literally written over with new data. it's still there just switched off.
