Info: AVG Free V9.0 / Windows 7 'Freeze' Problems

Just so you know, if you have Windows 7 installed & use AVG Free, you may start experiencing the pc 'freezing' up while trying to do stuff.

It's been happening to me for the last couple of weeks now & just found out that it was due to some upgrade with AVG.

    More details here:

So best bet for now is either uninstall & put an earlier version on, or use a different virus killer.

There is a link to 8.5 within that thread link. I'm gonna try Avast though as that's also free & some people have switched over to that with no problems, so might give it a go.

I have Windows 7 & I've been using AVG 9 for ages without any problems :ymsmug:

What processor do u have? I have a quad-core. Judging by a what was said in that thread, most people that had problems had a dual or quad-core processor.

Hmmmm, seems it isn't AVG9.... still getting lockups & have no idea why.

At the mo I can only think of formatting & starting from scratch, but really don't want to have to do that as it takes so long to get everything back up and running....

    Very annoying.

Re: Info: AVG Free V9.0 / Windows 7 'Freeze' Problems

Still been getting freezing even on a clean install of windows 7 X(
Got a new psu & graphics card incase it was something to do with those.
Was fine on new install until I connected the router/modem - soon as that had been done, the freezing carried on, so looks like its some sort of network driver / device problem with win7.

Tried vista instead and same problem - just about to try going back to xp and see if that sorts it - bit annoying as don't think xp will use all my 4gig of ram & not sure how it'll cope with a 4 core processor, but can't be worse than not being able to use the pc at all!

Seems loads of people have had problems with win7 - no one seems to have solved the problem either.
