    Laptop Advice Needed.

    Hi Everyone,

    Me again

Right, i have now decided to scrap getting the Numark V7s with Serato Itch as i would need a high powered laptop that will cost me well over a grand for which i am not willing to pay.

So i have decided to get a set of direct drive turntables, mixer and preamp speakers. The software i will be buying is Serato Live 2. This has worked out a lot cheaper then going for the V7s with Serato Itch, mixer and preamp speakers. But i still need to buy a laptop.

These are the MINIMUM requirements as specified on the Serato site.

    Windows
    • Intel processor, 2.0 GHz Core Duo or better (See Notes 3 and 4)
    • 2 GB RAM minimum
    • 1024 x 768 screen resolution
    • Windows XP with Service Pack 3 or higher
    • Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 or higher (not recommended)
    • Windows 7
    • Available USB port (USB 2.0 required for SL 2, SL 3, SL 4 & Sixty-Eight)

Note 3 is about using AMD processors which they don't recommend.
Note 4 is about i3, i5, i7 processor problems when using Serato Itch, Serato Live 1 and TTM 57SL.

    Other info

    • Available USB 2.0 port.
    • 1024 x 768 screen resolution or higher.
    • Hard drive space for music: 5400 RPM minimum
    • 7200 RPM recommended for high resolution audio playback.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

    Laptop

    Hello!

I would d. go for the I5 cpu. Intel has alot more raw power processing data. Its also more effective when handling heat. If you could afford - go for I7.
Another alternative is a 3D vision (htpc) computer. Small size, with good graphics and USB2 and USB3. Prices is about the same as a laptop but needs the power outlet.

    Regards,
    Mind

I have checked out prices of the Intel i7 laptops and they are too expensive - the laptop i get will only be used with Serato Scratch Live 2 and nothing else as i have a desktop PC already for everything else. It's just my PC is too slow for the Serato software to run smoothly.

I will check out the i5 option though - thanks for that Mindbender

My advice would be to get the SL1 version and put the rest to a decent laptop

There's only £20 difference in the price between the SL1 & SL2 Curly.

Although i am liking that laptop Curly - probably cost me around a grand in Euros though

SL2 is the newer, smaller box with better convertor rates and upgraded I/O's theres only £20 difference between the two
so she might awell get the SL2 !

fuck knows what happened to my laptop reply! but i put that your better off building a high proformence tower
rather then shelling out for a overpriced laptop that has little upgrade possibilities unless your gonna be mobile dj'ing.

It seems like a good option building a high performance tower but it's not feasible due to space which is why i need a laptop J3D

Prepare yourselves for this, it's a shocker ............

I say get yourself a 2nd hand Macbook Pro

Go on youtube and try to find a video of a name DJ using anything else with DVS software and see for yourself, 99% of the time they'll have a MBP. The reason is that Macs are built for better latency and just work better because there are fewer hardware combinations so driver development and testing is easier for developers, unlike PCs that can be made up from any number of hardware combinations.

I agree with you J3D - i am a bad loser when it comes to bidding

Although it is another option to look into - A new Mac Book Pro is nearly 2000 euros - the only thing is with a PCs/laptops i would only buy new - second hand you don't know their history
