    A new problem...

I took the hard drive out of my sisters PC & put it in an external HDD Dock & managed to get all the data off it. I then formatted it, it had 2 drives, an E & a G, i formatted both of them.

I put the hard drive back in the PC but it won't load the genuine Windows XP disc

Is there a way of installing it whilst the hard drive is in the HDD Dock? I don't want to do it if it buggers up my laptop... It's bad enough my external with all my music has gone kaput

When you say ....... won't load the genuine Win XP disc

Is it failing to boot from the XP disc? If so you need to enter the BIOS and set it to boot from the CD/DVD drive.

Or is it getting to the choose drive to install XP to screen and failing cos it's not detecting a valid drive to install to?

I can only press F1 for the BIOS screen & F12 to choose 3 options for booting from (which is all in German?!) So i choose to boot from the disc drive, the disc spins then stops & the monitor says unsupported video format & does nothing else?

I can't use my XP PC because the hard drive connectors are different to my sisters PC.

That's a bit odd. It's an error from the monitor as the monitor is receiving a signal it can't display.
Can you hook it up to a different monitor?

I hook it up to my LCD TV & i haven't got a proper monitor for it... It worked fine loading Windows but then i got stuck with the password screen & i tried starting it pressing F8 to start it in safe mode but it just froze with the signal problem.

    It's frying my head

    ?

Time to bring out the sledgehammer...just tell your sister it had to be melted down to provide chips for real life Terminators....at the very least it's a fun story and might only result in a few black eyes
