Norton Antivirus 2010 - Bug In Program!!!

I just got my latest update of Norton this week and paid for my year's subscription as I have done for the past 3 years. But hae suddenly had problems with my computer crashing and Norton picking up viruses/tracking cookies which are harmful to my system.

After panicking a bit about my laptop being infected with bugs or more scarily, on it's last legs (after 2 years), I did a little checking online to see if there was any probs with Norton itself...... and discovered this. http://www.adminspy.com/Technology-News ... -upda.html

Norton 2010 apparantly has been deleting important system files thinking that they are viruses!!!! ~x(

I've followed the instructions from Symantic (Norton's company), and removed and re-installed Norton Antivirus 2010, so fingers crossed I've sorted the bug in the program. But it pisses me off that I had to go searching to discover that it was a faulty program. Especially after forking out £45 squid for the damn thing!!! 'GRRRRRRRR!!!!!'.

Re: Norton Antivirus 2010 - Bug In Program!!!

I don't run MS Windows so i don't use any virus or malware protection software !
But for all the years i manufactured Windows based units "Norton" was always the worse
piece of bloatware shit going. All it seems to do is hijack your system hog all resources and eat up both physical and virtual memory.

it's people like PC WORLD [PACKAGED CRAP WORLD] That push this shite onto you
when i was doing Compaq and NEC i didn't have a choice we had contracts with symantec so
had to put it on the new builds and I would quiver at the thought of it !

you would proberly get better results using freeware like Avast Free edition
and a healthier smoother running computer.

I used Norton until recently and to be honest didn't really have any problems with it (except the price). Decided to go AVG free rather than fork out for norton.

I had no probs with Norton up until now, other than how feckin' expensive it is. But I think I may be reconsidering my options when the next renewal time comes round. I still manage to pick up some nasty bits of malware with my free Maywarebytes program which gets missed out by my 'all singing and dancing' Norton Antivirus, which pisses me off. Bah!

Used to use Norton years ago but stopped when I realised how slow it was making my PC, especially at start up. Never had any problems with AVG free but been using Kaspersky more recently which you can get a 3 user license for free for if you use Barclays online banking. Worth setting up an account with a quid in to get it for free.

Last time I tested them I found ESET Nod32 made a big speed improvement for me.

I use avast and find it sound. Recently had slow PC issues and it turned out to be the latest update of DivX causing me problems so I've taken off everything except the converter. Things seem to be running a bit better with it now. I had to many media players on there anyway. Nero, realplayer, quicktime, winamp, that one with the traffic cone of which the name escapes me ATM...

No need for all that really.

Norton is like the worst virusscanner ever imo. It takes up way too much resources from your computer and it completely infests your registry files of the computer :s

I had issues with it once, and I'm never going to install it ever again. It sucks when a program is completely weaved into your system.

I had the same problem when i upgraded to Norton 2010. I had to download a Norton remover tool to uninstall Norton 2009 and 2010 and then i had to re-install Norton 2010 again.

Apparantly when i upgraded and installed Norton 2010 it didn't remove Norton 2009 fully so my PC kept crashing and it was so slow.

I get my Norton 2010 from my ISP and i get it free for 3 months and then get charged 3-4 euro a month which isn't bad.

I have had no problems since but i do prefer Norton 2009.

Never checked this threads, so apologies for the time delay in replying!

I don't mind Norton 2010 now that I've got all my probs ironed out now. But the whole hassles that came with it really fecked me off to begin with considering I'm a fully paid up and regular user! May seriously consider checking out the free antivirus programs in future (though there's a chance I'll end up sticking with what I know 'coz I'm paraniod when it comes to antivirus software!).
