    Erm....

When it says 58gb free, it means thats free and available to be used.... i.e. you can save, store another 58GB before your hard drive becomes full....

i..e, in terms of USED space, you've still got 80GB of files, programmes, pictures, music etc on your PC (138-58..)

I'd also say that's quite a bit, and guessing your PC's running slow?

Generally I'd say PC Performance starts to get effected when you pass 50% of the C Drive Capacity..
Bang Nine Automatic Honey Child, oh yeahh......

(I know, but Honey Child does sound better... and for years I never knew..............)

    ew

I'm not sure exactly what it is you're asking!? If you have 58.9 gb free, why do you need to free it up? You're question doesn't seem to make sense! Or am I having a dumb moment here

Ahhhh, i had just posted saying eh?! The space that's taken up on your HD will be your programme files & data. The only way you're gonna free up more space is by deleting data or un-installing large programmes. And no once you've emptied your recycling bin the contents are gone for good. Unless you're a very advanced computer user, way beyond me!

If you're in need of more space I'd either buy a memory stick or an external Hard Drive

    Programme wise should be simple.

Go to My Computer, Add or Remove Programmes, and take a peek through... list for size; things your not sure about stay clear of, but there'll be plenty there you recognise and which you might feel comfortable about deleting.

Also, have a look through your C;Drive - Programme Files (you'll need to Open this, it will tell you the files locked from viewing, just click to view).

When your deleting a programme sometimes the file remains behind in the Programme Files, this should also be deleted (but don't delete before you've un-installed though).

You'll recognise these generally by Company Name...

Are you running a lot of games?

    When your finished un-install them........

Photos, music, videos and Porn take up shed loads of room as well; try and burn to DVD/seperate hard drive... I've a 200GB PC I've had in use for 2-3 years, my C Drive is currently 12 GB (out of 60GB), my D Drive is 60 GB out of 140GB; I then have a second old PC with 80GB on it that is hooked up, plus a number of DVD's burned with stuff on them (5GB a pop so usefull storage) and a handheld 80GB portable HD Drive as well........ most of my space is photp's and music...

I also try and every year to totally re-boot the PC, basically loading that disc that came with the PC into the machine and wiping totally clean; but after I've a full back up on disc of the important stuff.

I then download all programmes I haveand basically try and keep it as clean as..

and that 1tb harddrive; you shouldn't need to always keep it on?

Switch it on, download/upload to it, then switch it off..

The ones inside get hot as well
Just don't leave any paper near it ... just incase

Most hard-drives (external) that don't have an on/off button sort of go into 'sleep' mode when they're not being accessed so I wouldn't worry to much. I sometimes leave the pc on all night if downloading big files.

Back in the dial-up days I used to leave my PC running for days on end!
