CCleaner uses an advanced Registry Cleaner to check for problems and inconsistencies. It can check the following:
* File Extensions
* ActiveX Controls
* ClassIDs
* ProgIDs
* Uninstallers
* Shared DLLs
* Fonts
* Help File references
* Application Paths
* Icons
* Invalid Shortcuts and more...
CCleaner it is then!
We have it at work and it doesn't seem to do anything much... probably because of the massive firewalls we have![]()

But if i set to factory settings all the programmes that were on it when i first got the computer come on as they are pre-installed on your hard drive - maybe this is the same for you![]()
Just make sure anything on your hard drive such as music, videos and pictures are saved to an external hard drive before you reset your computer and make sure the external hard drive is switched off too![]()
Are you using internet explorer or firefox? I used to use internet explorer & found that it would freeze up on me quite often, so I switched to firefox & it's much betterOriginally Posted by malgossno1

"Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music."
Excellent advice msprim, although I will say malgossno1 to be vey careful when you're doing that - you're obviously very frustrated atm and I wouldn't advise touching the damn thing, bull in a china shop and all that. Go and have a cuppa, think about it, and approach it logically and sensibly.
Don't mean to patronise you but the amount of stuff I've wiped off my drive because I've been raging is untrue... better to have a slow PC rather than none at all![]()
And where the bloody hell is BB when you need him?![]()

Freezing up - only seen this once with a mates pc. Sounds very similar - very slow & then locked up / turned off.
What was causing the problem on his one was some dodgy program running in the background causing the pc to work 100% and therefore overheating the pc.
He could barely get online before it turned itself off.
Now this may not be what's happening here, but it does sound very similar.
To test the CPUs load - press Control Alt Del & then click the Performance Tab.
On mine for eg (with a few progs running & few windows open) it's jumping between around 5 - 30%.
If your one is 100% and not shifting, then something running in the background is causing what's happening.
Next thing to try is boot up in safe mode & do that test again. Hopefully it will be ok.
You then need to get some cleaning up software to detect viruses / trojans / spyware as my guess is it's something like this causing it.
Could it be a possible dust or processor fan issue?
You never know...
