    Re: Soulseek

Not used Soulseek since moving as I'm using my laptop until I build a PC and can't always have the HDD connected. As soon as I'm up and running properly though I'll post my username as I have plenty to share

    Re: Soulseek

I get a problem with my Soulseek. When it boots I can get the first lot of downloads with no trouble but when it tries to get a second file it slows right down. The only way I've managed to get round it is by changing ports and restarting after every initial batch of downloads (which is a total pain in the arse). The upload speeds are unaffected at least.

Is this a setup thing or my ISP blocking Soulseek?

    Does anyone else experience this?

I use solar seek on the mac and sometimes it has asked to change network settings, and many users dissapeared.

Wow, I'm surprised people still use soulseek Not used it for about 5 years now since all the legal people were kicking off and threatening to take people to court etc. To use it safely I'd remain invisible and just share with people on my list. Used to be a great place for rarities and probably the bset sharing site out there.

Isn't Soulseek kinda dead for everyone now. I remeber back in the day it was my only real resource for good classic underground material, but now when I log back in I only see one chat room, and if I search for something I am lucky if I get even one result. Am I missing something here?

Sounds like this is your router settings, used to happen to me when I first started using it. When you first install Souleek it tells you which port number it will be using, you need to go into your router settings and switch on port forwarding for this port, or if that doesn't work you can switch on DMZ in the router settings (basically forwarding every port). If you open Soulseek, go to Options, then General Options, it tells you which port number is being used, and also an option to test if it is working OK.

I'm assuming you use a router, if you don't it could be your firewall in your antivirus blocking Soulseek.

Soulseek truly is an astounding program, and to anybody who hates not always being able to d/l stuff straight off, or all the other cr*p you have to put up with, I'll say this:

When I first started using about 18 months ago, I had a sickening wantslist of some 2000 tracks. Having been stuck on dial-up for 9 years prior (and hence never d/loading much of anything), I said to myself.. "I only have to be content to grab a measly 2 files a day average, and I'll hack down that list within 3 years"; a perfectly acceptable timeframe. 18 months later, twice as quick as anticipated, I'm now only missing about 20 recognisable tunes, personally speaking (>99% completedness), across all music genres..... a resounding WIN!!!!!

So, anybody who would diss SS, please don't. Truth is, it ROCKS
