Windows Vista Logon problem - HELP still needed

The Mrs has a fairly new lap top and tried logging on today and got the message 'The user profile Service Failed the logon'

She basically cannot get pass the password screen

Gone onto the Dell web site and this issue is where the user profile is corrupted. They give instructions on how to go in on the control panel > user account control > Advanced settings > user profiles > then delete the corrupted profile

I've logged in via safe mode as that is the only way I can get into the control panel.

My question is.. She only has the one profile on her machine. If I delete the profile what happens?

I can't seem to create a new user account / profile in safe mode..

    Re: Windows Vista Logon problem

I've done as the instructions say and gone into HKEY_LOCAL-MACHINE > SOFTWARE> MICROSOFT > WINDOWS NT > CURRENT VERSION > PROFILE LIST

It then says right click on the currputed SID and delete it. then restart the computer...

Fair enough, but how do I know which one is currupted.. :-\

There are four files in the profile list

    S-1-5-18
    S-1-5-19
    S-1-5-20
    S-1-5-21-2292904423-4122701271-732697007-1000

I guess the last one looks a bit screwed.. should I just delete that..
