Its All About Oldskool Weekly Email (13th February 2011)

Welcome to this week’s IAAO email.

The way you organise your music files on your computer says a lot about you. We are all music lovers and the majority of us will have very large music collections. I have over 400’000 tracks on a couple of 1TB hard drives. 90% of this is stuff I bought from online stores, ripping my vinyl collection or ripping my CD collection. The other 10% is mainly oldskool stuff I grabbed from PO or here and live sets I grab each week from various radio shows. I continue to buy lots of music every month and add to this collection. But having it organised in a way that’s easy to understand and quick to find is another matter. I have seen some real nightmares on people’s computers when it comes to how they have their music organised. Perhaps it’s my OCD but there has been many times when I have just wanted to take that persons computer or laptop and do it all for them. They just don’t seem to care. As long as itunes can find it, then they are happy. Even if it’s from an unknown album and an unknown artist they are happy. It gives me nightmares.

I have everything in genres and within those genres it is split up into Albums, singles and live sets and within those it is years. I find this the best way to organise music and I’m sure lots of you have a similar if not the same way as this one I use.

This week I downloaded a free BPM analyser by the guys who make the Mixmeister software. It’s a free tool on their site which you install and add files or folders or music. It will analyse all the tracks and add the BPM’s in the tags of the file. I decided to sort all my tracks out into BPM’s. So within the years of the various genres, there would be folders with various ranges of BPM’s. I’m not doing it with everything as there is no point me putting pop music in BPM folders. It’s just mainly for the music I mix with. In this case it is Trance. The tool works really well and it will come in handy for me when I want to sort out a playlist for my radio show and I want music from a particular style and BPM range. If you haven’t already, then check it out here: MixMeister Free Stuff :: BPM Analyzer and grab yourself a free copy.

A small change to the site was made this week. All singles, Albums and Live sets sections have an alphabet at the top of the forum and when you click on a particular letter, it will display everything starting with that letter. So, let’s say you are looking for a set by Ratty from 1992, then you click on R and hey presto, it will display everything beginning with R. This will make searching for things in individual forums music easier, especially when it comes to finding singles, well, as long as you know the artist that is.

This Tuesday (15th February) Renegade Radio will once again let me loose for 2 hours between 9pm-11pm (UK time) for the Its All About Trance show. It will be split into 2 hours once again with the first hour dedicated to Progressive and the second hour playing some of the best classics ever to grace dance floors around the world. So come and join me for a journey you will never forget (well perhaps you will forget, and quite quickly) only on Renegade Radio www.renegaderadio.co.uk for more info, check out this thread: Catch Me Live Once Again On Renegade Radio (Tuesday 15th February 2011) and don’t forget to check out www.its-all-about-trance.com for the latest and greatest in Trance & Progressive old and new.

For those of you into Video Conversion, I have won a copy of WinX HD-Video Converter Deluxe. I already have the product so I’m giving the copy I won away to one lucky member. You will need to send me a PM with the answer to the question I’m about to ask. The first person to send me the correct answer will get the product key which is valid for one computer. This is an official copy and not cracked software and will only work on one computer. You can find details of the product here: WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe - Convert HD Video M2TS MKV to AVI DVD, AVCHD MOD TOD MTS HD-Video to MP4/iPhone/PS3/Xbox/Youtube/DVD Easily and Fast

    Ok, here is the question:

Which track came in 1st position on the all-time top 1000 Trance Tracks poll?

Send me a PM with the correct answer and the product will be yours. The first person to do it wins. Good luck.

    Have a great week,

    China.
