Welcome to this week’s IAAO email.

What I love about music is discovering something new. Something you just hear and it makes you sit up and listen. What makes this even more special is when it’s a genre you really have no interest in. Well, let me rephrase that as any genre has good and bad music, so let me say a genre which you generally don’t listen to all that often, if ever.

But this week I heard something from a genre which I never really listen to and have never really paid attention too. I could count on one hand (ok maybe a little more) the amount of tracks from this genre I have heard over the years. The genre in question is Reggae. A track came to me through searching for something on Youtube and as most people click various links after watching one thing, there it was. I clicked on it and my ears instantly pricked up and I loved it.

This to me is why music is such an amazing thing, what makes it so special. Sticking to what you know and love isn’t always the best thing; it isn’t the be all and end all. There is a mountain of good music out there waiting to be discovered….and a mountain of bad music waiting to be put on the scrap heap.

A couple of site updates happened over the last week. One of them was the upgrade to VBSEO (more about this software here: vBSEO - The Leading SEO Plugin for vBulletin), which is one of the mods/plugins we have installed on the site. This piece of software helps with all the search engine stuff which works in the background. But one of the features which has been added is the likes system. It’s very similar to the likes system on FB. On each post now there is a like option towards the bottom right of each post. If someone puts up a new thread which you find interesting, then you can click on the “like” button. It’s the same if someone replies to a post and you find it interesting, funny etc. then you can click the “like button. This then points people to interesting content on the site and also builds up a like’s tree on the site. I’ve started to click certain posts and threads now to do just that. Give it a try yourself to get used to it, it takes a second to do.

A soundcloud BBcode has also been added to the forum. For those that use Soundcloud and you post your links on the site, then you can now use the soundcloud BBcode to put your links inside. This then puts the file directly on the site for members to listen to instead of being directed to an external link.
