Welcome to this weeks IAAO email. Your weekly dose of spam, directly to your inbox.
England are out of the world cup....no surprises there so I won't dwell on the fact that our national team are rubbish and have been for years.
We have changed servers (again) but hopefully this will be a permanent move and no more disruptions to your daily visits will happen for a while. During the move we did a couple of software updates and changes. One of them was to fix the slight problem with recent/new posts not updating properly and another was to add some SEO optimizations. These will run behind the scenes but they make a big difference.
One important bit of information I need to mention this week is PM's. As you are all aware we transferred the old forum to this new one and with it came the PM's. I did have the choice of not bringing them over but there may have been unread and important PM's users wanted. The trouble users have now is that their inbox/sent box are full. We have a 50 PM limit on this forum, which is the same as what it was on the old forum, but on the old forum, there was an unlimited limit in the sent box. On this new forum, there isn't, it counts towards your 50 limit, so there are a lot of users who have sent messages which go into the 100's (mine had over 500 in there)
The trouble this is causing is that users can't send PM's to other users who have reached the 50 PM limit because of the sent box. What members need to do is empty their sent boxes and they need to do it as soon as possible. It's very easy to do. Just go to your PM section and follow the instructions on deleting sent messages.
The labels without a home section is getting pretty full and I will find time this week to get it all sorted and move all those labels in there to their own sections.
Things are now starting to settle down after all the problems and changes over the last couple of weeks and it seems most folks are finding their way around the new software which is good to see. There are a lot of new options to get use to and in some cases it's quite a steep learning curve from the relatively easy phpBB forum software we used before. I will be putting up some guides on how to do certain things on the forum to make it easier for folks. But until I do, you can check out the FAQ section which gives you lots of help and advice on how to do things on the forum. You can find it here: Its All About Oldskool - Oldskool Rave Music Forum FAQ
My main reason for changing the forum software to this new one is quite simple really. I've been thinking about it for a long time, the site was growing at an alarming rate and while phpBB is great for new and growing forums, there is a limit on what you can do and where you can take it. With us growing so big it was time to take the site to a much higher and professional level and this software seemed to be the main one to go for. The server crash was in a way the kick up the arse it needed.
It could be argued that the old forum didn't need to change, that there was nothing wrong with it in the first place, which in a way is true. If it aint broke don't try and fix it. People get use to something, they enjoy what it has to offer and when it's taken away and replaced by something new and alien to them, well, it gets a little confusing and hard to swallow. But I feel the changes needed to be made. Just to make us a little different from the rest makes us unique I guess and the flexibility is very good. What other oldskool site out there offers each and every user their own individual Blog to do what they please with??
I've got some really exciting plans for the forum in the future and for the front page as well ( I will be making contact with certain people about this in the coming months) and I will be talking to the Admins & Mods about stuff as well and getting their ideas and input on it. Plus, there are you guys as well, you too have a say in what you would like to see on here and again, I will be getting your thoughts on this in the future.
Anyway, I think I've gone on far too long, but if you have anything to say about this email or future email, you can reply to the individual email in the weekly email forum which you can find here: Weekly Email
Have a great week,
