Thread: 320 Singles Section?

Appreciate the reply China, very good points raised, but for me BB nailed it when he said a crackly/poppy vinyl recorded at 320 might not be as good as a CD rip in 192.

I think, with all due respect, that although some of the members like the idea of their mp3s being in 320 (as I used to, but I've seen the light ), they don't necessarily understand the idea of it - I posted a couple of paragraphs few weeks back asking about this difference, and ended up doing a lot, a hell of a lot of research into it, and it's not worth me personally searching for 320s... but that's only because I understand the format of a digital audio file, and to say it's mind-boggling is an understatement; therefore I wouldn't expect each and every member to know that fundamentally the difference is negligible.

However, i understand that a lot of members wouldn't be sold on the facts behind these kind of files, it's more of a very slight OCD thing (i can't put it a better way at the moment I'm afraid :ymblushing: ) that peeps are happy that their mp3s are 320s. And I certainly for one can't persuade everyone to see this point of view.

I'm just against it as I personally really, really, don't like the seperate section in the trance site.... wouldn't it also be time consuming finding out what bitrate every mp3 on this site is? The only thing I can imagine how you'd do this is by downloading every track and checking out the properties??? Mark, you know I love your site, and I mean all of the greatest respect, but surely - as a neutral, rather than my personal preference - you've got better stuff to do?

I can see BB & Swipesters points here..... though I must admit I go for a track that sounds the best 'loud' regardless of the bit rate. It's just that most 320's I download do sound better than 192's & deffo better than 128's.

We wouldn't need a 320 section if everyone was courteous enough to put the bit rate in the title each time!! Damn those lazy b*stards, don't they know we are all OCD crazy over here?!

Another nail on the head for my argument

So what do you want me to do with the section? scrap it? leave it? what?

A digital download at 320kbps sounds far more superior to a track at 192kbps. Download a couple of Trance tracks on my site which are in both formats (there are quite a few duplicates) in both High quality 320 and lower quality 192.

If you are listening to this stuff on your iPod, you won't be able to tell the difference, play them loud on a powerful hi-fi or for the lucky ones, out in a club, and you will notice the difference.

I've done a lot of research into the sound as well a about 7 years ago when I was debating the whole WMA vs MP3 thing.

So what happens with this section? because we are going round in circles.

I suppose if it ain't broke.... don't fix it!!

Seems some people want it and other don't.. I think it's a good idea, but then again i don't really listento singles anyway. Maybe a vote?

I prefer it the way it was. I'm not too bothered about if it's in 320 or not.

It certainly can do, but most old skool rips are from vinyl - unless it was lucky enough to come out on cd as well, so all depends on the quality of the needle /recording software rather than bitrate (in most cases).

I think it was only myself who raised a rather strong argument AGAINST it initially, and although you say we're going round in circles, there are plenty of 320 rips on here where the software/needle/original source are sh*tty... and to be really bitchy, there's a few members on here who post 320 rips who I won't even download from - I eventually get the mp3s from another site in a lower bitrate, and on some occasions have been so disappointed with the quality of the supposed 320 'quality', I've actually bought the mp3s on 192.

The problem is C-R that the members are uploading 320 rips and to be really honest, whiny, nasty, candid & frank, they don't know what they're doing. I must stress here that nobody appreciates people taking the time out to upload tunes out of their personal collection more than me

I guarantee that I'll find you a 320 tune in the new section where I have a better copy on a 128 even!

Rant over, I obviously don't like the idea of it, the new sections been done, it'd be unfortunate for you to undo all the hard work you've done the last 24 hours. Leave it be and see what the members think... or better; I wonder if someone will eventually start complaining about the lack of quality of some of the ups???

I guess you can never please everybody (hey Swipezter), but I don't see there is any real problem. I'd say let it ride and see how it goes.

Every single one of my 320 is Cyrstal clear even with my dodgy ear!
I havent got a clue about 320 This wav this etc as it sounds a bit Everyones got a hobby!


What harm will it do, its far better than having a sneaky Trance section!

I dont like it went it gets all Serious! If it starts to annoys the tits out of me, i will start a campaign to change it to, Full length porn films only ( No short clips)

Anyway, as said above - you've already gone to the trouble of adding & putting bits into the 320 section, so u may as well leave it as it is for now.
Most people seem to like the idea, so voting wise 'Yes' is the majority.

Sorted - think it's obvious I'm very passionate about this site, and the only reason I was so opposed to the idea is that I'd hate to see anything happen to this site that would (in my eyes) make it less popular in any way.

Reading back my posts, I don't regret them, even if they are a little dramatic, but in future I'll just keep my mouth shut

For those after 320's, they can find them back in the normal sections in the years they are from.
