    House Singles Section

What's the thoughts on having a singles section for house/garage tunes only? Just one section say from 198? - 1999.I say this because i've noticed a few requests going around for a few house tracks & thought maybe it would be better to have a separate section for them rather than mixing them in with the hardcore, drum & bass, jungle, techno etc... ?

    Re: House Singles Section

I PM'd China about this earlier. Not sure he's too keen on a seperate section but he's fine with a thread.

Don't wanna put words in his mouth so i'll shut up and let him read this and then say his piece.

Definitely worth sorting something out tho - i've got literally hundreds of mid 90's House tunes on vinyl and a nice 1210 on the way to rip them all with.

    Re: House Singles Section

I'll be making a thread in VIP for my stuff - will probably call it '90s House / Club / Dance' as not really sure what catagory most of it would 'officially' fit into.
Then they'll be a list of the tunes & a few download links for them.
As long as the thread is kept neat it should be fine

    Re: House Singles Section

It seems most if not all of are in favour of this section. I've already spoke to Dodders in PM about this but I will say what I said there.

I'm not really in favour of it, the reasons why are as follows:

For those who were there, please cast your minds back to pureoldskoolers. It was decided that everything would be put into genres. This caused no end of hassle and frustration and ultimately got pureoldskoolers closed. Only a House sections has been asked for and only in the singles area, but what happens a few months down the line when someone gets the idea that a Techno section would be a good idea, then a Jungle section, then a Drum & Bass section. Then someone asks for a House section in the live sets section and you then have a set by Easygroove which is in the House section and then a set by Easygroove which is in the general section.

Also, what about all the House singles which are already spread around the year sections? a few hundred maybe? what happens with them? do they stay there, do they get moved, do we have to sift through 1000's of singles looking for House tracks? Are they re-posted again in the House section, thus creating double posts of the same track in the different sections?

I'm really not in favour of this I'm afraid and if you can think of a better way of going about it or you can convince me, then let me hear it. But the thought of Genre related sections fills me with fear.

Stick one 'old skool house' section in the VIP then China & away we go....

That way we can upload all stuff in one place, whether it be sets, singles or albums....

I agree with China. You'll just end up getting stuff posted here there and everywhere. If anything it should just be by year for single mp3s full singles and full albums and you could encourage people to put any extra info into the post as a description, eg "Genre: deep house", "Label: Tribal UK", "Format: 12" Vinyl" etc. If you had a standard format for this description you could search for genre through that year quite easily.

That would definitely be the best way to do things IMO.

Genres are very easy these days, they are clearly set for what they are. But back in the day, it was far too complicated.

Presentation is this key here, [DS] would back me up here

At the same time, having a forum which is perfectly laid out in genres would be fantastic, but for an oldskool forum, it is far too complicated and confusing.

I'll suggest a format for posts people could try to stick to when I upload my test album in a bit and you can see what you think.

    Re: House Singles Section

Gonna be fine as it is. As long as there's a bit of info - ideally a Discogs link so you can get an idea - then thats all you need. Once you've downloaded a tune you can "genre" it up as much as u like in your own folders.

Just had a peek in there. It's all new and shiny - felt like i should have dressed up a bit...

    Cheers for this China.

That's right mate, all people need to do is put the info in the posts and search will do the business, whatever your genre needs are

Most will search for the release on discogs to add the link to the post. Copying and pasting the info from the discogs page to to the post takes literally seconds to do.

If your adding a bulk of tunes it would as said by RG have a thread title and hopefully a little Intro where keywords would also have the required effect.
