Its blipped out a couple of times with me.. sometimes when i've clicked a few too many times.
What's new is working fine. There are no errors in the logs or reported bugs on the VB tracker. There probably wasn't any new posts since they time you logged off and the time you logged back in.
What's new doesn't work the same as new posts on something like phpbb. I will try and find a full explanation of how it actually works so you can read it.
