10 second pause every time i post

I had a bit of that a few hours ago but it seems better now.

The site does seem a bit slower than the old one tho.

You're joking me? 10 seconds to load a page...that's outrageous.

Come on man, stop being stupid.

Remember that this forum is MUCH BIGGER than the other forum. It won't be as quick without loads and loads of optimizations and that's something I'm not going to spend weeks doing just for speeding the site up by a few seconds.

Also remember we are on a shared server, which means there could be 10, 20 or ever 50 other websites on the same server. I haven't got the money to go on a dedicated server which could cost in the region of £150-£200 a month.

There are other small things in the software which are on a bug tracker and these get sorted with each software update and as I don't have a date of when the next version is out I can't give you an answer.

Remember what dial up was like? no one complained then. People would quite happily sit there for 15 minutes while a website loaded and not batter an eye lid and your moaning about 10 seconds?

Saying all that though, it annoys me sometimes but keep that under your hat

I will make a few small adjustments on this end to see if it makes any difference. It might not improve by much but you may see a small speed increase.

The site is a lot slower, but I think that benefits me... gives me a chance to think twice about what I'm posting when I'm pissed

I'm glad selwyn moaned about this before me, as it crashed my browser this morning when I was in the middle of an half hour upload - shockingly slow the site is now

I can see selwyn's frustration, but also China's - the way I see it China, I sit on selwyn's side:-

Yeah, 10 seconds is nothing, but in this day and age you can flick between at least 5 sites in that amount of time, and this is what we pay our super-fast broadband monthly bill for. So comparing the site to the exaggerated 15 minutes to wait for a page to load 10 years ago on dial-up is unfair.

S'pose it's like me offering you a Nokia 6210 instead of your mobile now, see where I'm coming from?

There isn't a day goes by now without someone getting at me for something. Be it in emails, PM's or on the boards.

I'm sorry to air this in public but quite frankly I'm trying my best here. I have a full time job and very limited free time. It's getting to a point that I'm finding it hard to remember what my Wifes name is and what she looks like because I spend so little time with her because of dealing with little things on here that people go on about.

Yes I'm the admin and yes it's my responsibility, but give me a break man. The site works, the site is on-line and granted it is running a little slow at the moment for some people, but it's on-line and working.

Wouldn't worry too much about it China, the only thing I'd say is the forum has lots of new functions which I'm sure will be great once I've worked out how to use them!!

It is very slow, but I'm not complaining. I'm just glad IAAO is still here

Guys i cant see what the problem is all these symtoms your talking about i dont have,the site works fine for me maybe its your isp? or your computer?

mine is not to bad it takes about 7 seconds, which is still 5 seconds to much in this era of super high speed. I was only a member on the old style for a few weeks and that did seem faster. So its either the new software or new server.

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick there mate - nobody's having a pop, just an observation.

What you've done with the forum has been nothing short of awesome - and that was BEFORE the upgrade - and nobody appreciates that more than me and you bloody well know that.

I'm sorry you feel that way but you've got to put into consideration that the thread was posted in selwyn's harmless nature and I say what I feel (Ze point of Ze forums, Jah?) - ATEOTD I have a shit broadband supply and a laptop that's getting fairly old hat, so it's not going to be super-fast anyway, and that's tough tit on my part.

It's just slower than the old forum, that's all we're saying and yeah, I was annoyed when it tried to load a page this morning and crashed my browser in the middle of an upload, but that might be my fault for being too tight.... the extra few seconds is worth it with all the bells and whistles on it and you damn well know even if each page took an hour to load I'd be the last member standing.

Nobody is expecting you to 'do' anything or spend extra dollar on the forum either, the job you've done is fantastic, we luuuuurve you man

So what I'll say is get your arse out of your hand and spend some time with Mrs. Brown - as Haze said, it is in rather poor taste trying for a little 'un whilst browsing the boards

Yeah I was not having a dig at you chinarising I like what you do on here, its just this is the forum feedback section and it is good selwyn highlights these problems to discuss
