    Inactive Users, Non-Contributors And Lurkers

IAAO is a community, it relies on it's members to keep the community feel and the friendly welcoming atmosphere it prides itself on. Without contributing members either chatting or up-loading their collections, we wouldn't have a site to speak of. Inactive members and those that don't say a word do not help in building a site and building a community, they are just member numbers which don't mean a thing. Having 10'000 users not getting involved is pointless.

We now have software installed on the site which looks for those that are either inactive or non-contributors/Lurkers and takes away their full site access and gives them only limited access to the site with limited features such as no PM's. Here is a breakdown on what each group is and how long it is before you are put into one of these groups:

Inactive users: These are members who have not logged onto the site in a certain time period. In this case it is 90 days. After 90 days of inactivity the software will put you in the inactive users group, taking away your full access to the site. To be upgraded back to normal contributor status will full access to the site you will need to do the following:

    1) Log back into the site
    2) Make at least 1 post
    3) Wait 24 hours until you get your access back as the software will automatically move you (after 24 hours) into the contributor group. If this does not happen within 24 hours then use the forum promotion part of the site to ask for an upgrade.

Lurkers/Non-Contributors: These are members who continue to log on every day, other day or week and do not make any posts within 30 days. After 30 days of not making a post but continuing to log on, the software will put you in the lurker group which again has limited access to the site with limited features. To be upgraded back to contributor status you just need to do the following:

    1) Log back into the site (not a problem for lurkers)
    2) Make at least 1 post and the software will automatically upgrade you there and then without the 24 hour wait.

To stop this happening again you just need to make at least 1 post every 30 days which isn't hard to do at all considering Lurkers log on more or less daily or weekly. We don't stop people or frown at people who are just here for the vast download sections we have, but if you want to keep out of the lurker group just say thank you for the download, that's all it takes to stop your full site access being taken off you. It takes 5 seconds to do.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
