Yes, there are no plans to get rid of it. There are still 1000's of links without the code tags, so it makes sense to keep it really.

You will be fine mate, you post on a regular basis. You didn't reach 10 and stop like some. That is really what it's aimed at.

Plus with the links now starting to be hidden, I think the pink group will slowly disappear. Although there are a few fans of the actual colour, so I may just change the contributor group pink

    Re: NEW: Hide Code BBcode

I like this, i really do... But i like to listen to what i've downloaded before i can properly thank someone, plus the fact that 1 person can upload alot of tracks in seperate posts & i have to thank them for each upload before i have listened to them...

Don't get me wrong, it pisses me of when i upload tape packs & i get no thanks at all (4 Pure X packs still no thanks!), so i just set them to private & wait for someone to say... "Hi mate, your files are set to private", & getting thanks from someone just for the sake of grabbing your upload doesn't mean much... When they do without this new counter measure it means they have actually wanted to thank me... & they can add what they think of my upload after listening to it/them.

I download alot from the singles section, purely to expand my personal collection & i feel like a twat saying thanks for something i haven't heard yet

    Anywho's enough of my rant

I know that it is for the greater good of this forum but it's a pain in the ass for the real contributers & restricts them from giving their full thanks (unless they post twice, which some won't be bothered to).

You don't have to code-up your links if you don't want to though mate.... it's purely a personal decision?

You can always check YouTube as well for the tunes you are looking to download.... most stuff is already on there these days!

I understand that & i may or may not code my links... Not sure yet But it's the thanking other people before i have downloaded from them i have the problem with...

Alot of the tunes posted i don't know the names of or haven't heard & the quickest way for me to hear them is to download them from here... I'm getting old & my patience isn't as good as it was, so i can't be arsed to spend time farting around to find a tune on Youtube that is right in front of me here... One good thing for the uploader is he can see who downloads from him/her, which is good

Time for my Horlicks then beddy by's me thinks

I understand where you are coming from mate. But you have said it yourself, you have uploaded packs and no one has said anything to you. To me that's out of order. You have spent the time upping those packs and post them on here for others to enjoy, yet no one has spent 2 seconds saying "hey, thanks for putting these sets up" it makes you think "why the hell do I bother"

We have had it on this forum for so long asking people to post a reply to users putting stuff up and we have put our faith in that happening, thinking to ourselves that people are grateful for the time and effort spent by the poster doing this, but it has sadly failed. We brought in the 10 posts rule to get people use to contributing to this forum, sadly it has failed. Bringing this in was a tough choice between right and wrong. On the one hand it will generate replies whether they are genuine or not, on the other hand it will be just as bad as no replies because you will have a mountain of "thanks" posts and nothing more.

But, while it's great the likes of yourself and others will take time to listen to something and then reply saying how much you enjoyed it, others will not do that, others will not ever post a quick thank you. There is nothing stopping you saying thanks for a post and then listening and then going back to your post to edit it to put a proper reply. A reply of thanks takes less than 10 seconds, so it shouldn't cause too much of a ball ache. You could even put something like "thanks for this, I will have a listen and let you know what I think"

This also comes down to posting etiquette. The user [DS] has made a post in this forum just a few days ago asking members to tidy up their posts. putting a youtube link in their post when possible of the track you are about to download, that way at least you will get to "try before you buy" so to speak. A little effort from people goes a long way here, and making little changes to the way we post will go a long way in earning the respect off members and also, give you a little something more to talk about

I think you could be on to something there Leon, I reckon you should pitch that idea on Dragons Den

I find it laughable that everyone is getting upset that they are not getting thanks for uploading (near as dammit) copyrighted material.
Who then have the audacity to complain at record companies/bands/whoever going after illegal filesharers.
It just seems to me an interesting concept that the whole thing seems to have come full circle.
If it was never your property anyway and you put it up for sharing who gives a fuck?
Just my musings and I do say thanks and stuff because it's common decency.

    Re: NEW: Hide Code BBcode

Copyrighted material or not, alot of what's posted on here is rare & hard to get your hands on without paying silly money, & alot of time & effort is put into making them available to people on here. Speaking for myself I've uploaded a hell of alot stuff on here, & as already stated I've put alot of time into doing so. Dam right I get annoyed when something I've posted gets downloaded 20 odd times without one thankyou! Those that are here simply to leach without even saying thankyou or contributing to the forum in any way shape or form don't belong here IMO. & when I say contribute I don't just mean uploading music, I don't care about that but I think if you are going to download stuff from here then you should get involved in some of the threads also. Afterall that's primarily what forums are about, & like you said it's common decency to say thankyou.

I'm happy to edit up my posts but I have a question, hope it's not too dumb.
I have the url's in a url tag so they are clickable, so can I still just add the code tag around the url tags & as well as hiding the links it will still make them clickable or should I just post the http & put the code tags around that

I can't log out to see if the code is working because I can't get into the forum to see if it's working, when I'm logged in I can see the green text so not sure if it's working ok.
Told you this was a bit dumb, sorry

I have edited this post, could someone tell me if it's working correct & hiding the link, before I do the rest , thanks

You need to get rid of the URL tags when putting them in the code box. Clickable links won't work with the code tags. What it will do is put [url] and the beginning and the end of your link. The easiest way for folks to grab a link in the code box is to press select all and then copy the link into the browser.

I've had a look at your post and it's fine, links are hidden

imo i don't care about the leech vs seeder thing or the thanks. As long as i see that the music is being downloaded, that's all i care for. My main concern is to get our sound out there, spread the love. I'd hate for a few bbcodes to get in the way of a kid like me not getting a new track.

That being said, its a great idea i guess, but im happy as it is.

I forgot to mention that by using the [code] tags to hide your links. Those using google to search for stuff and the results turn up stuff from this site, those people will not be able to see the links without joining the forum.

Links which do not use the [code] tags to hide links are able to be seen and downloaded by anyone searching on google.

A little problem with this new code, it goes back to Presentation. People need to put in release info outside their links as now on a lot of pages especially label topics we cant see what is actually there for the taking, or what is needed to further complete the topic. example
