    New: Oldskool Labels Section

First of all, thanks to RenegadeGenius for his input on this.

Work has begun on a new labels section based in singles which will replace the Label section we have at the moment.

The changes are quite big and a lot of work is going into it over the coming days (or weeks)

Once complete, the section will be divided into sub-forums in alpahbetical order, number order (for labels which start with a number) and a section for White & unknown labels.

Each label will have it's own forum dedicated to that partucular label.

When finished, you will find it much easier to get around and much simpler to find the labels you are looking for.

For those labels which aren't on here already and you would like to add, then you will have a couple of ways to get them included.

The first one will be to send one of the Admins or mods a PM asking them to add the label. I will then add your label to the section.
The second one will be to add a post in here asking for it to be included and again, I will then add that label to the section.

The section will take time to complete, so please bear with me while I get it done. In the mean time, please continue to post labels in the normal section. Once the new section is complete, the old section will be deleted.

    We hope you enjoy it

It could be worth sorting through all the label threads when moving them over & removing some of them where all the links are dead, there's quite a few & it seems a waste of time them being there. For example there are two Formation Records threads where none of the links work, so I have recently added a third with active links obviously.

    Just a thought

Yup, fantastic idea, I was having a good old rummage through the labels section yesterday looking for Absolute 2 Records and it took an absolute age, even after typing in unsuccessful results in the search box. Waard has confirmed though that this label doesn't (yet) exist here

Might start it up myself, but they won't be all 320, which seems to be the trend, what do you lot reckon

Quick question for the label lovers.

Would you rather have one Formation section which featured all the sub-label Formation stuff?

Or would you rather all the sub-labels had their own sections? Formation Months Series, Formation Signs Of The Zodiac Series, F Project etc etc

Haven't been here for a while. Just seen the new label section. Great idea. It was getting a bit messy the way it was. Top job everyone

    2 sides to this imo:

Firstly, for good housekeeping and to keep everything nice and neat and together, it would be best to keep all the labels and their sub-labels in the same section.

However, you'd really have to know your beans as, for example, Suburban Base Records has 6 sub-labels alone - people know their oldskool on here, but I reckon only a handful of people on here (okay okay, anoraks ) would be able to name all the sub-labels of any major label. Basically, people wanting to download from the label Second Movement Recordings would be looking under 'S', whereas it would be under 'B', as it's a sub-label of Back2Basics.

I think the argument here is, "Well, that's what the search box is for at the top-right of the screen is for Stu " but for me nullifies the whole point (and hard work) of moving the labels section into easier categories if people can't find what they're looking for.

Does this make sense or am I being my usual self?

I think you have made a compelling argument to be a mod there..

I agree. Going from the examples mentioned i'd put Second Movement in a separate thread and i'd put Formation Month Series, Formation Country Series, etc in the Formation thread as those are sub-series rather than sub labels, if that makes sense.

Think each 'Named' label should have it's own area rather than loads of sub labels in one label area - I for one wouldn't know that Subbase had loads of sub labels (as only got the stuff from 91-92) - I'm guessing the sub labels for that came with the jungle / DnB stuff?

At least that way people know where to look

    Separate sections it is then

It's not a problem to do and we might as well do it right first time than having to go back and re-do it. For the purists as well as for those looking for particular songs on particular sub-labels.

I now find that it's a lot harder to view the most recent posts in the new labels section & that you have to look at the dates on every individual label until you find the label/labels with the recent posts.Does anybody else have this problem?
I hope what i've just written makes sense!

Yes it does make sense Waard. But as each label now has it's own section rather than everything being bunched together as it was, there is no way around it....well, there is, it's called view new posts

Plus Waard (forgot to mention) each section with a new post in it, the little symbol to the far left turns a pink colour when there is a new post inside since your last visit.

You can if you haven't already viewed them.

Let's say you view them now, then log off and come back after 5 minutes, the only new posts which will show will be the ones made since you logged off.

I understand where you're coming from mate, there is a hell of a lot of labels. But if you know what to look for in terms of looking for new posts, it makes it a little easier, not perfect, but a little easier

Doing this new label section I have noticed one massive let down.

Why isn't there a production house Discography yet?

If I make the section, does anyone fancy taking on the the challenge?

Well I do have lots of Acen / House Crew / DMS / Brothers Grimm stuff, but that's mainly in VIP.
