Thread: The New Thanks/Hide Button And How To Hide Your Posts

I'm proud to announce the brand new Thanks/Hide feature on the forum.

This is a much more complete Hide system than the previous one and here I will detail (with pictures) how to actually incorporate it into your posts if you want to hide your links.

The trouble with the previous system as some of you know was that it had a few bugs in it. For instance someone could simply quote the post to get the link. Another problem was you would just get people saying thanks and nothing more just to get the link.

Well the new system doesn't have the above bug. You can't quote to get the link, it will not work. Also, simply reply to the thread with a thanks will also not reveal the link. You now have to thank the post to reveal the link. It will display all the people who have said thanks to see the link. You can still reply to the post of course and give your thanks and feedback when it's called for.

So, how is it used?

First of all you need to either post a new thread or even reply to a thread, but for the sake of this tutorial we will say you are making a new thread.

Make your post and hit the Hide button, this has changed from the little gold key and now looks like this:

Put what ever you want to hide between the Hide buttons that appear in your post.

Then you need to select the "Require thanks to see this post" option which you can find in the additional options section below the Tags box, here is a picture:

Then submit your post and that's it. The content will be hidden to all users and they will only be able to see this content if they click the thanks for this post.

You can see who has hit the thanks button as well as it lists all the users names.

If you have any questions or problems then let me know.

Please Note: as this is a new hide feature, all previous hidden content will now be seen by users. To correct this you will need to go back to your posts that you want hidden and edit the post. All you need to do when editing the post is tick the box for "Require Thanks to see content" in additional options (see second picture) hit submit and that's it.

Ok, one small change I have made:

The thanks/hide system is now only available on certain sections,

All the download sections and the showcase your talent section. It is not available on any other sections but those.

The reason for this is that general sections like chat have no need for it.

I dont think older posts can be edited. I tried editing this post http://www.its-all-about-oldskool.co...76/#post165302, i can see a "Require a Thanks to See Content" but not a "requires thanks to see this post". Or am i just tripping & it is hidden to others.

That's the option you need fella, it's just my wording which is wrong. What you describe is exactly the same thing so just click that and it will work fine.

It's abit deceptive as there is no visual confirmation that the link is hidden, for example the last hide code feature had a grey box to visually confirm the link was hidden.

I've done it to two of my links & don't know if it's worked as i can't verify it unless somebody else tells me.

As long as you followed the instructions in the first post Leon, it should be fine.

It would be nice to have a picture instead of text, but a hidden link is a hidden link. The main thing is that it works and works well

For those of you curious as to who is thanking you for your stuff, then here is a quick way to check it out:

Click on "my Profile" at the top right of the screen
Select the tab "post thanks/Like

It will give you the date, time, who has thanked you and for what.

There is also a like feature, similar to what we have now, although i've switched it off as we have a like feature on here already (notifications of the feature we have now are annoying for some and it has been asked for the option to switch those notifications off. Apparently it will be coming with a software update)

It will only work on the forums that the thanks mod is enabled
