As you are all aware, we have a 10 post rule on the site which means all new users must make 10 posts before the whole site is open up to them.
This was originally created to stem the flow of leechers to the site and encourage user participation on the forum.
This has positives and negatives.
The positives is that it stops someone just coming along, joining and downloading without having to say a word to anybody, not even a thank you when they have taken something.
The negatives being that some users who want to share things are unable to because they are forced to join in with chat which they aren't really interested in (weak I know but it happens)
We introduced on the old forum a way for users to hide their links until someone replied to a thread. Members were free to choose if they wanted to do this or not.
On this new forum, we also have the ability to do this by using the hide links button, which when used correctly by following these instructions to the wire: Its All About Oldskool - Oldskool Rave Music Forum - How To Hide Your Links also have the same effect. It must be stressed here that you must follow those instructions to the wire and not do anything else for this to be effective in hiding your links.
Again, users are free to use the hide link function if they want a little kick back from users by hiding links until reply.
Members getting to 10 posts just to get to those links were doing exactly that. Granted not everyone did this, but the majority did, which means the 10 post rule doesn't work in all cases while working on other cases.
The moving users to the non contributor status is not a factor here and quite frankly I thought it was pointless.
I think members who come here will either use it as a leeching site or become part of the community we have built here regardless of the 10 post rule which means I am opening a poll and discussion on whether we should get rid of it all together.
If users want some kind of kick back from posting links, they can simply use the hide function we have here, which we never originally had when the site opened, which is why the 10 post rule was brought in in the first place.
Please take a moment of your time to vote on this poll and if you so wish, post your comments about this in this thread. How ever the poll turns out we will go with it, so think carefully before voting as you will not be able to change your answer. So think before voting and if you are on the fence, then read some of the comments this thread will generate.
Thanks for reading and thanks for voting.
