Thread: Some Important News Regarding The Site (14th July 2010)

I've just received word from my hosting company which host this site and the Trance site that they are stopping their web hosting services. The servers will be switched off within the next 10 days.

This means that I will have to move both sites to a new company.

Because the site is generating a lot of bandwidth, I have been advised to go for a VPS (Virtual Private Server) account.

I have now signed up for a VPS account with another company (don't ask about the cost as it's quite a lot for VPS)

This means that at some point in the next few days, maybe even today, the site will be closed and then moved to the new company. The site has to close during this time for obvious reasons.

The good news, or at least I think it's good, is that we will more or less be on the next best thing to a dedicated server. A dedicated server will cost far too much and a VPS is the best option.

I will try and update you as much as I can over the coming days, but please prepare for some down time.

Any idea how long the switchover might take boss?

The actual moving of the site will only take a couple of hours.

The time consuming bit is the change over of the nameservers. That can take up-to 24-48 hours. But usually it's 24 hours or less. The reason for this is because it takes time for the whole of the tinterweb to catch up with the new servers address.

I will be closing the site at 1pm today to start the change.

...and by the time I get into work it'll be fired up and ready to go

I'm looking forward to drinking lots of coffee, smoking loads of fags, caining t-interweb, downloading some tunes, getting on the blower to several people about me new radio show and generally doing naff-all to do with work... and still get paid for it

Sadly i'm not in work today due to my back and i'm sure I won't be in work tomorrow either, or the next day.

But there is no need for pity...i'll be ok staying at home watching daytime TV

Slight delay on the 1pm sutdown.

We aren't on the VPS server yet, we are on another Hosting account which I have till June of next year when it's up for renewal.

When it's closer to that time I will decide what to do.

I also need to find a new host for the Trance site as well as that hasn't got anywhere at the moment

Well, we're back upand that's the main thing. No point chucking away money Mark and you have time to assess the options this way.

I'm not going with the VPS just yet.

I think I need to weigh my options up first before making any big decisions like this would be.

I'm on a new host now with new costs and I will move my Trance site to these guys as well.

Once my contract with them comes to it's end, I will look at the VPS option again.

It's a big step and one that needs to be thought of carefully before committing.

Out of curiousity, did u get some sort of refund from the last lot - considering they were only hosting the site for about half hour?

The previous host I was with I had been with since April 2009. When the site went down last month, I signed up with another Host just in case we had to start again. Once the sites came back, I stayed with the host I had been with since 2009.

The host I signed up with during the downtime i'm with them now and they are hosting this site. I did all the moves yesterday.

So no refund i'm afraid and as i'm using them now
