    BBC 2 Jungle Documentary 1994

Very similar to 'A London Something Dis' documentry, but not as good imo. Still a good watch though.

Btw, this isn't my Youtube accout, but if you want to check me out, go to: http://www.youtube.com/user/BillyKundalini. There's various uploads of '92 to '94 Oldskool Hardcore/Jungle sets. I'll post links to MP3s as soon as I get my post count to 10.

I personally found this documentary very inaccurate. I can't speak for London but jungle wasn't 'black music' at all in the Midlands - arguably one of the better places in the UK for the scene.
I'm also insulted that the DJs (and I thought half of them didn't know what they were talking about, especially Fabio) in the documentary reckoned that London invented jungle... what a load of crap.

And gangster jungle? Never even bloody heard of it

With hindsight looking back at it now 15 years later jungle didn't progress to what they thought it would... it morphed into something bigger than they could ever have imagined.

"Jungle is for black people" utter bollocks

Hi swipezster, pleasure to meet you mate.

Yeah I suppose the documentary was a little biased towards London, but thats to be expected. A lot of the DJs and producers from that area helped make the scene which in turn would make them proud to be a part of something that big. I think this would make some people within the scene come across as slightly arrogant. They seem to forget that London isn't the centre of the universe . Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't Birmingham had a strong scene since like 1991? Recently noticed that a lot of the old promoters are making come backs i.e. Starlight, Pandemonium etc. Man I wished I lived in Birmingham, there's shit loads of Oldskool events taking place there. Are you going to the Starlight vs Amnesia event this month swipezster? Was going to travel up to Brum for the Starlight event earlier this year, but worked out too expensive! Hopefully I'll be able to make it to one next year.

I see you're into Ratty mate. I take it you're a big fan of Basement Records? Love Basement myself, even if it does sound a little homogenized. Jack & Phil - Tek Trax (huge bassline), I.Q., More I.Q. etc. are some of my fav tunes.

gonna watch this as i'm pretty sure a mate of mine was interviewed for this....my mistake. there was another bbc documentary around this time that focused less on the black aspect of jungle (which i must say i bollox as most jungle djs i knew at the "start" where white folks). they interviewed grooverider, goldie and my mate dirty harry (representing the free party side of the jungle scene).

love danny's glasses in this though.

    general levy...what a twat

I always thought the London scene was a bit shite to be honest..... far too dark & moody for my liking!! People like Fabio were the pioneers of playing what they wanted to hear, not what the crowd wanted! The jungle scene around '94 in London made me start going out to predominantly house clubs like Club UK, The Gradening Club etc.....

    yes mate, me 2.

hardcore went all rubbish (imo) in 93 and the jungle sound down my way (reading) was just too oppressive for me tastes.

going to club uk and later the complex was much more like going to a proper rave. oh how i miss club uk!

Re: BBC 2 Jungle Documentary 1994

Unfortunately I started going out to events when the vibe turned dark; however, this is one of the main reasons I like it.

I've always said that I hate anything pre-1993 but one bored afternoon about a fortnight ago, I downloaded a shed-load of stuff from the 1992 section on here, and I'm pleased to say that it changed my mind, and although I've always argued that it's basic stuff with just 4 channels, there seems to be more soul (as in spiritual, not musically) put into the tunes like the one Haze mentioned yesterday - Foul Play's "Ragatere". Wicked tune
Makes me look forward to the meet up even more, as initially I wasn't too bothered hand-on-heart about the 92-ish sets being played. Well looking forward to the tunage now

It only makes me wish I were a couple of years older so I could have gone to the events :ymsigh:

we'll have to show you the error of your ways then matey

there's some cracking jungle stuff going back as early as 1990 (names escape me though), but it wasn't until 92 that things really got moving. "456" and the later remix of it are seminal jungle tunes imo. love em despite not being a huge fan of the general jungle sound.

check out the fabio and grooverider set from universe pleasure planet for a quality mainly jungle set from that period viewtopic.php?f=125&t=5139

That's why you're moody mate.... too much gun shot jungle ringing round your ears!!

Stick to '92, we all walk around with our hands in the air, not giving the evil crack-eyes to whoever is in the vicinity!!

Music between mid 1991 & mid 1993 was designed to be listened to loud, whilst off your head, preferrably at an event with a large sound system & a danced to with gay abandon..... the late '93/94 onwards stuff is more for standing around listening to, contemplating who I'm going to stab next!!

To be fair to Swipez though, as he's a Midlander, he wouldn't have had much choice but to have a good chin stroke as that's all they were playing in Yam Yam country.....

I'm glad you said "chin stroke" rather than an, erm, 'regular' stroke

    I'm not moody... just particular
