    Arrow CLANG!!!!!!!

we all clang (the dj's amongst us) but have you ever let it go into a total train wreck while playing out? akin to the audio track of the grand national? not dissimilar to a drumkit falling down some stairs?

i was playing at a rave once and a mate spoke to me to offer me a line, mid mix. i tooted it all up and started chatting to him, oblivious to the sound of 2 tunes mixing like oil and water for a while, until some geezer jumper infront of the booth and shouted at me. i felt a right twat :ymblushing:

    anyone?

    Re: CLANG!!!!!!!

i don't tend to clang as much as i did when i first started, but every dj has them I have even heard Ratty struggle on the odd set. I remember one time i clanged was at an outdoor festival I was in about to cue up a mix and my mate persuaded me to have a baloon of laughing gas and the mix went quite skewiff as it took effect. But the rest of the set was o.k.

Everyone clangs now and again for whatever reason, be it their own or another factor that may or not be within their control.

    Re: CLANG!!!!!!!

at sanctuary 08 when monitors kept cutting out and i dropped a beat and a bit out due to reflections off the back wall of the arena on a couple of occasions leading to some proper wrecks in the early part of the set. worst part of the whole scenario was hearing the main rig cut out too and some fella shout "do your fucking job properly you wanker!". i was already pissed off and had threatened to chin the sound engineer if he didn't sort the sound out and that yelled comment didn't help matters at all. thankfully the sound got sorted (and i started mixing purely in my cans) and the rest of the set went well.

it's one of those funny things though that most non djs, especially if they're off the head, dont spot out of time mixes or train wrecks. a point proven to me years ago whilst at club uk. billy nasty was on and was wrecking from the word go, seriously the mixing was awful and it wasn't the fault of the sound as nick warren had been on before billy and was tight as. i commented on how bad it was to a couple of my mates and they didn't have a clue what i was talking about!

I've lifted the needle off the wrong record on more than one occasion at parties, resulting in near silence! Just shrug and drop it from the top!

Very true. I had mix tapes that I love and knew off heart. Once I had been mixing for a few years, I'd listen to these tapes and realise that the mixing was pretty poor or near non-existant (lazy) mixes. Still enjoyed them though

Only when the needle decides to jump mid-mix, and fuck the full set up. ~x(

P.S. I've never actually played anywhere, this usually occurs about 55 minutes in to an hour mix bedroom DJing.

Everyone gets the odd clanger every now and then. I actually quite like the odd clang like someone said, makes it feel real. Especially nowadays where you could quite easily preset a mix on some sort of programme on your laptop and mime.. I dont trust prefection..
