I was fortunate to see him a few times way back when......gotta admit, he mesmorised me once to the point I didn't need drugs! Only 2 DJ's have ever done that to me..Sasha & Carl Cox.
I was at the Eclipse one night/morning and he came on after a really hard set by Top Buzz and the way he changed the crowd in there was amazing!

Easygroove was the king....
Saw Sasha play loads at the Northern Exposure nights at Madison's on a monthly basis with Digweed. Good DJ but not that good!
Didn't play hardcore so how could he possibly be the best?![]()
All down to personal preference for me and we have all been to events where you have come out and thought that set was mega....dave angel, devious d, tin tin, Luke slater, Randall, Micky Finn. I have always liked Ss and ratty particularly 92/93.
Look at the hype now over tiesto, guetta, Swedish house mafia et al.
Sasha was top of his game for a certain type of music , always had the exclusives tunes and had a big following bitd the only comparison on the hardcore scene was the rider....fact.
I had the privelege once to be behind Sasha once when he was DJing in Brum - I've posted this before but his mixing made me want to give up straight away. The bloke mixes in key, without adjustments. Problem was, when I saw him DJing, he didn't seem to be that intersted - might have been where he was
Masssive DJ BITD but a bit hyped, like Tiesto and Twatid Guetta.
DJ who blew me away was DJ SS Xmas Eve 1993 (where he played Crystl's 'Meditation' from start to finish) and Grooverider mid-90's with an amen smasher/reverse bassline set. Although this forum ain't the Rider's biggest fan, I'll eat humble pie and admit that the crowd went mental and he blew the roof off, with Man Parris on the mic... so I agree with Jim Tosh's post above![]()
Here's a question for you all then... How many Sasha sets do you actually ever listen to? Apart from the Renaissance mixes I've uploaded, the only other Sasha set I have in my collection is from Universe - Pleasure Planet which admittedly was huge in '92 but is as much down to Pengs genius on the mic as opposed to Sasha being any good....
Deffo' all about Easygroove....
Always liked SS too so there's a good shout.
Grooverider never said it for me....![]()
That was the only set I liked from him for me being gunshot, etc, when all you lot turned to gay House
Problem is here, Sasha went away from Hardcore in 92, and now it's all of a matter of taste which confuses stuff because we all like different genres. I think what Curly's trying to point out is that Sasha in his own right was decent - for me, he's the best mixer I've ever seen![]()
Easy groove for me was always a peak time set when the pills were kicking in. Not a start of the night or end of the night dj for me. Bass generator was of a similar ilk.
Can remember a belting keth suckling set bitd.
Groove rider headlined most if not all events back in the day....not necessarily the best ....maybe he had a good agent or was just a hard bastard.
You were always guaranteed plenty of fanny when sasha played.
I loved sasha and had all the eclipse tapes of him. I loved the weird tunes he would drop like leftfield mixed Whitney Houston and dshakes yaaaah mixed into sinead O'Connor nothing compares to you. Nobody was playing what he played on the hardcore scene.
Excellent dj.
Sasha was for the chin-strokers before they knew they were chin-strokers...![]()

getting this thread back on topic.......
sasha was always best in 90/91. he was never a hardcore dj, but in those years the genre's were less defined. i have said this many times, but the thing i loved about the Eclipse was the diversity of the dj's in the members night on saturdays. members night was always half full, half price, and at least 3 good name dj's. a snip at £7 a ticket in those days.
sasha was on a lot as the last set of the night, or at least close to it. a bit of lovelyness seemed apt after a night of metalism.
according to some mates i saw him at shelly's once, but i have no memory of the night at all.![]()
