I think the first "rave" tape I ever got my hands on would have been around summer '91, it was a tape full of un-mixed tunes that a mates older brother had recorded, it included some of the following selection -

Undercover Movement - Moonstompin (Dead Skinhead Mix)
    Eon - Spice
    Ravesignal - Horsepower
    Digital Orgasm - Moog Eruption

And the first mix tape I ever bought was The ESP Hardcore Mix (late '91) which went missing many years ago now! It was an awesome set full of mint tunes & top quality mixing. To this day I still don't know who it was mixed by as all it said on the cover was "ESP Hardcore Mix", going by the track selection though I'd guess it was maybe Clarkee but I'll guess I'll never know for sure.

I wish i could answer this as there was a tune on it that i'd love to get my hands on. Sadly the tape is long gone.

I remember the MC shouting "Telepathy" a lot & some of the other tunes were:

    Congress: 40 Miles (Dub)
    Carl Cox: I Want ou
Strings of Life to finish the set

Mate, what i've told you is what i remember. Was actually gonna ask you about the Telepathy thing - see if you had any Flyers from such an event.

Course, he could be referring to the DJ

Might even be a good pill and he thinks he's reading peoples minds.....

I've got a fair few Telephathy flyer from 1990 & 1991 (most are posted over the road). If Congress 40 Miles was playing I'd guess it was maybe between July 91 & September 91.

    Was already looking.

July 91 sounds about right - my first rave was then so it makes sense.

I seem to remember it being an outdoor event as well - so the Bow Flyover location is out.

Spose i'd better get in the request thread.

    i shit you not!!!

i even remember him callin himself 'dj chciken n mushroom pie with a few chips' once..

only heard him play late night on dance zone.... and though i got to know most of the original cyndicut 100.4 djs..... i only hooked up with a few of the dance zone boys...

i knew who denzil, nephew, quest, destiny, tms1, robin ee and prism were.... but the rest i had no idea... most of them were part of pressure fm in 92/3 when cyndicut had dance zone had gone.

Cant remember if it was Vibes from Hysteria: Summer Hystrerics or Vibes from Vibealite - The Semi Final Award Ceremony. Either way it was the back end of 95 (I'm not that old too). Both great tapes.

i can't tell you what it was because it was just some random C-90 copy of a mixtape with no name on it,but it was in mid to late 1990 i remember that much.
it's was a live recording (i think) but with no mc's or crowd/whistles on it.

Renegade Soundwave 'The Phantom' was extremely pitched up & somebody was scratching a female accapella "sweat ! sweat ! - i wanna see you sweat ! - work em up boy - enjoy the ride !" over the top of it ... so if that rings any bells with anyone
i posted some of the track list in this topic = http://www.its-all-about-oldskool.co...055/#post67844
so if anybody recognizes that collection of tunes(not in that order),let us know what it is

the funny thing is when i was 14 or 15 i had no concept or appreciation of the fact that is was a mix. so after i taped it off my mate & gave it him back, i just cut the tracks into certain chunks & separate tracks because i only liked certain tunes
so i still have the tape but the tunes were rearranged by me (to my preference) into little bits & pieces.
i didn't do that again i can tell you

first tapes i bought = Your First Mix Tape You Bought..

As far back as i can remember (i've always wanted to be a gangster) lol... But seriously, i thought it was a tape my (now) aunty gave me when i was 12/13 which was DJ Sy at Obsession - The 3rd Dimension & i fuckin' love that tape...
But i was lucky enough to move just outside Hay-On-Wye (near Hereford) when i was 11 (so 1990) & lived there for 5 years & was close enough to Clyro Court to hear some of the events on the weekends, sat at my bedroom window.

I was in the Cadets in Hay-On-Wye (19th Platoon) & i was forever copying tapes that my mates had of events from 1991 onwards... We went to York on our 2 week camp & i nicked a Sony Walkman from a shop that was getting ready to put them on display but hadn't hooked them up to the alarm cable things
Went to another shop, nicked some headphones & batteries

But unfortunately, the sneaky bastards in cadets worked out the combination to the lock on my locker in the barracks & nicked my tapes

Anywho's... I remember listening to a Bad Boy T @ Dance Planet 1992 tape & it was amazing, tunes that weren't being played at the time & blew my mind!

I'm pretty sure the first 'rave'tape I had was either a recording from TRENT FM of gawd knows who dj-ing playing quite slow mellow tunes, or a shelleys laserdome tape, 1990.
