Back in the day i was into hardcore a lot more and even entertained the happier side of the music, i could never get my head around dark side vibes of jungle back then. As i grew up (and dabbled more with mind altering chemicals) i began to understand the deeper aspects of the music more. A lot of hardcore i loved back then i find too cheesy now, so Jungle gets my vote. I still have massive respect for the original hardcore though anything from b4 94 which soon after became too cheesy.
Big up all crew no matter where ya comin from!

Quite weird this thread has been bumped because yesterday there I was, minding my own business playing a really nasty jungle set on the decks, and when I finished, I checked through the history to discover that I'd ended up the last 20 minutes of my set playing 92 hardcore

What the feck have you lot done to me?

Just to sound petty, my hardcore knowledge has always been there

The fact that I reckon I don't like it and bang it into the end of a set that I'm doing for myself, I can't answer

I voted Hardcore....but I also love Jungle: "Thunder" by The Rood Project; "Revelation" by Ron Tom; "Shuffle" by M Beat....3 astounding cuts all Jungle....but for me it was Hardcore - synths, stabs, piano, vocals, bass, technoey elements hoovers etc....breakbeats, claps, hi hats or fat kickdrums....there was that rollercoaster energy to it, although Jungle had the same it was just presented in a different way. I think because I grew up listening to all sorts, from Radio hits to disco tunes, to my Dad's 7 inch singles like Gary Numan etc...I wasn't really brought up on Soul, Roots, Ragga - so I went more for the "white man's" music I suppose.

Nowadays I collect and listen and play anything from Hardcore to Jungle to Hard Trance and just Music in general....I lean mainly towards Hardcore though where "Rave" is concerned. And what I've loved discovering over the last year is that really lesser-known underground gem that everyone seems so hush-hush about....that quirky white label, with some surprising wicked and original sounds; not just the ususal 4/4 pattern or generic stabs...of course there's always the duff tunes, too many to have to wade thru at times. But when you discover that tune that gets you going again; it becomes like a fountain of youth effect. I'm 34 now and my feeling and passion for the music is still unabating. I listen to the same tunes ov er and over; everyday. Perhaps I'm an addict, but I don't care...I could die now and I'd die happy....BUT I'M NOT READY YET!!!

The truth is that, years later, on reflection; both Hardcore and Jungle had their highs and lows.....both are awesome genres for me

    Amen..........

I love em both. Music for me really all depends on mood and experience. I experience new things, my moods change, and since i am always engaging in some sort of musical sensation as i am growing, the subjective realm, so to speak, becomes prevalent in what i would even consider favorite...but to claim favoritism as a means of describing what is dear to me, is for me, like saying that this brand of underwear suits my balls until something more snug becomes available. ~ugh where the hell did that come from... hehe anyway ...

What i am trying to say is everytime i THINK i can call something of music MY FAVORITE i soon learn that it is futile doing so. Mainly due to some new experience and new composition (that just so happens to be playing at the MOMENT that i am IN THE MOOD EXPERIENCING) sending signals to my brain telling it WAIT no this is your fav!.
Hence, New experiences setting the stage for future moods that will ultimately decide what i believe to be "Favorite" at the time. Only thing is.. my favorites are like my underwear ....i am constantly changing them.......

...after reading my post i think i could of just summed it up much simpler by saying every piece of music that i fell in love with could easily be ALL my favorites, none greater then the other, because each piece plays an integral part of my life and coincides with each chapter of it perfectly.

As for the hardcore/jungle poll? I absolutely love it when they come together...which for me is even better then considering one greater then the other.

    Example : Agent 24K & Ben intellect - T. 1000
    Label: Boogie Beat Records (1993)

Always been partial to the darkside tunes Ratty used to play. Any early Formation records stuff went down a treat also so I would hedge my bets and say hardcore. Although some of the jungle basslines were proper on a big system.

this was a strange poll to answer but I voted hardcore, I also like some jungle but the amount of hardcore tunes far outweighs the jungle ones, and by jungle I dont mean gunshot jungle or ragga jungle that gets zero votes. I just mentioned that because some people think thats all jungle consists of, oh no, plenty good jungle without that shite,

    +1 for me.

Love jungle, had many a top night to it, but hardcore (92-94 era) is what I always come back to!
