    Losing Records In The Collection!

Just been looking to rip Conquering Lion's 'Code Red' on Mango Records, and it seems to have disappeared into my collection somewhere. I have my vinyls stored alphabetically by Labels and it's nowhere to be found in the 'M' Section. Don't you just hate it when your supposedly ordered filing system goes tits up! Gonna haveta rake through each bit in order to hunt the little bugger down. It ain't even in the Congo Natty bit. Anyone have any preferred way of storing yer vinyls? I have approximately over 2,000 and a bit records.

I considered that way too and had mines stored this way before, but because I have labels like Moving Shadow and Suburban Base which straddle the lines from hardcore to jungle to drum & bass, it means I'd haveta split up those collections. Plus I don't have all that many non hardcore/jungle/drum & bass vinyls (about 2%!). The method I have works the majority of the time, until I misplace something. Bah!

I keep all the labels together though, i don't split them for different genres... It gets too complicated that way & it's easy to forget what you've done with them

Hmmm, tricky one this as I categorised mine differently as I used to DJ with my vinyl - I had a custom-built unit where my mixer and decks 'sunk in' to a flush surface (never felt right mixing) and I had partitions built into it for my vinyl where I categorised it with genre. This was handy as if I was in a happy hardcore mood, I'd just reach down to the lower-left partition and mostly pick at random as I knew it was the right category.

Can totally see where you're coming from about splitting labels up though and I probably wouldn't do it now either.

Did you slot it away when you'd a had a drink? Could it be under 'T' for Topcat?

Bloody hell. Just a wee update here. Found the bugger in the 'X' section under X-Project, 'coz it's only bleedin' written all over the promo sticker!!! Thank feck I took Swipezster's advice and look under another artist's name rather than go through all sections alphabetically! Noticed that there's no mention of it being by Conquering Lion on the promo.

I was actually gonna suggest you look under "B" for "Ba ba baaaaaa, ba ba ba ba baaa"

Was thinking of posting looking under 'X' because that's how I visualised that particular vinyl I had

This is a ridiculous idea if I may say so.

It should be under 'D' for "Da-da-da-da-dah-dah, Du-du-du-du-du-duhd"

i cant be asked to put mine in order but i do have a section type thing going on lol i got a mate to build me a big L shaped box with 6 big sections in it not all have records in one has stereo stuff in and two have computers and records anyway, all oldskool house hardcore jungle etc pre 94 in 1 section, all jungle dnb after 95-99 in 2 more sections, dnb after 2000 in 1 section, garage house and breaks after 95 in another section and then a few piles around the room and in record boxes etc i can find most of what i want when i need it, till someone else has a mix and puts shit all over the place then it can take all week to find hehe

You can't see it that well in this photo, but I have a divider for each label in alphabetical order. I also have a section per year for stuff not on label - eg 91, 92 etc. I make the divider out of record mailers. Works for me, but like you say I do misplacve something now and then!

Mine are in a cube like the one in Edd Jedi's picture, they are stuffed into a cube into 'era'/'style' a couple of cubes are 92, then 93, then 94-95, then jungle and then DnB 93-94 then Hardcore Breaks/ Nu Skool Breaks, then 88-90, then 91 and Liquid DNB etc. So that way if I am doing a set/ mix I have a rough idea of where things are.
