Whose retarded idea was it to stick the on/off switch there then? ~x(#-O

haha the mark 2s are a nightmare for accidental turns offs aint they.
they improved things with the mk3 and onwards by chamfering the switch and making it much stiffer. i believe you can replace the mk2 switch top with the new version fairly easily...
It's not really the positioning of the switch itself, it's the kind of rotary idea at the top. Even if they put a recessed button at the top or something similar, it would be fine.![]()
that's what i mean. they changed it on the mk3 and onwards so that the rotary on-off is much harder to accidentally turn off. in fact i dont think i've ever done it...not even with my dressing gown wearing approach to mixing ;p
and i thought it was just me that did that lol
yeah bad design fault on the mk 2's defenatly.although if the button was resessed it would be a lot better.
dam i dont no why i dint go and work for panasonic![]()
Bloody hell. Didn't know direct drive turntables were available in 1969.![]()
SL-1200's were first released in 1978.![]()
and very little has changed on em since
shows just how good that original design was.
will they still be making the same numark/vestax/stanton/gimmick decks in just as long from now i wonder...?
The DADDY of the decks i love mine
when i decided to buy decks again after selling mine 10 years ago, technics were my first choice. strong, sturdy, tried and tested workhorses. but then i looked around and decided on Numark TTX1. i only have 1 slight niggle with them, the platter is a lot more responsive for those heavy handed dj's amongst us who may struggle to cope with this change immediatly.
that aside, these are superb decks.2 start/stop buttons (one can adjust the speed of stop, the other does the start speed) the 45/33/quartz/key lock keys and pitch slide are interchangable for battle mode, reverse button (ok a bit of a novelty) interchangable S or straight arms, torque adjust, key lock (when connected via usb) 4 pitch settings +/- 8%, 10%, 20% 50%, and loads of other nerdy stuff that mean very little to me.
once you get past the light platter (for seasoned 1210 users) these are sturdy, hardwearing decks. i struggle to scratch on technics due to being a bit heavy handed, but i can be heavy handed on these and i get no skipping![]()
technics are the classic choice, rightly so, but dj's need more from turntables nowadays and technics don't offer these options.
Apparently they're ceasing production of the 1200 and 1210 mkII as of this month.![]()

panasonic want to kill the technics brand because it is made in japan , the factories are more expensive than the chinese ones
10 years ago technics used to also make hi fi systems , digital pianos and mixers
now it is just down to turntables and headphones
they should have bought out the guys who made serato and done some advertising , pushed the whole digital turntables thing but they have done nothing.the brand is slowly dying thanks to panasonic.
I stupidly bought the Vestax PDX2000's but having recently invested in a 1200 Mk5 I am really impressed and am considering another one.![]()
Sesame's Treat
A strange New York neighbourhood, in which Muppets and people lived harmoniously as equals, kept young British children transfixed for decades.
haha i owned a pair of Vestax PDT5000 when they came out, selling a pair of 1210s to fund them. great decks for keeping time, but rubbish when it came to being rugged enough to put in flight cases and lug about the place. sold em after about 4 years and bought some technics again (mk3ds) !
something to bear in mind with the news on the discontinuation is that it only applies to the mark 2 versions and not the later models.....
Take the little black rubber thing off the counterweight and put it on the start/stop switch.. It fits around it perfectly, makes it much more resistant so you won't accidentally turn it off when scratching etc![]()
no there not ! ' it's bullshit nothing more then Internet Chinese whispers i have already said on a few threads the same as thisOriginally Posted by The Milkman

Nothing wrong with technics mk 2s, i think ive only ever switched mine off accidentally once, which to me is not enough to call it a design flaw
Big up all crew no matter where ya comin from!
