    Who got to much praise

Like the other thread I started about who never got enough credit or praise for there work, Who do you think got to much? Well not to much, more like who everyone seemed to think was great or there was loads of hype about. Can be for DJ's MC's or Producers.

I never really liked Top Buzz, sets or his tunes he did just didn't do it for me.

    I rate Top Buzz.

People who I didn't rate as much as their rep. That's a tough one. Leave it with me...

I think this may well have been said before somewhere on here but Feckin Ratpack bloody hated them.
As she lay there dozing next to me, one voice inside my head kept saying, "Relax... you are not the first doctor to sleep with one of his patients," but another kept reminding me, "Howard, you are a veterinarian."

Common theme with the Ratpack.. To be honest though I quite liked seeing them bitd as they always got the crowd going even if some of their tune selection was a bit cheesy..

Was never a huge fan of either Grooverider or Fabio back in the day. Apart from Grooveriders set at Tribal Gathering, I can't think of any others by either of them that I've ever really rated? May be a bit controversial but was never really that fussed about Bukem either..... apart from his Dreamscape 4 set, no others stand out for me?

As for Ratpack..... I think if you heard them at events, certainly in '92, they weren't actually that bad & usually got the crowd going but they didn't really transfer to tape very well with all the rubbish MC'ing & anthem-bashing!

Yeah Paul (Dougal) & his old man are sound as a pound, that didn't stop me & my mates ripping him though when he turned up at school wearing pink skin tight jeans one day

    The Chemical Brothers
never rated them anyway, but i remember reading an interview of theirs in the mid 90's ('95,'96,'97 ish) in Muzik Or Mixmag where they said something along the lines " Detroit is old news - we hate the way everyone harps on & bangs on about Detroit as if it's the be all & end all - let's move on shall we ? "(or words to that effect).

& then a year or so later they sampled Blake Baxter's "Brothers Gonna Work It Out" & had a major hit with it
    ... wankers

Yeah, forgot about Chemical Brothers, remember that BITD Radio 1 thought that they were living Gods, and they seemed to lap it up.
They do smash it at gigs though, I can defo confirm that

As its been said... Rat Pack (-| they do the same old tunez over and over, same vocals, if you've seen them once you've seen they have nothing new to add.

& on a happier tip, Dj Sy, don't get me wrong he's made some alright tracks, but over-rated and seduction, ramos & druid are much better!

Re: Who got to much praise

Although I love Bukem, some good points have been made about him - maybe he has had too much praise, although most of his productions are top-drawer.
As for his mixing, beat-syncing is spot on, but he does these weird unnecessary chops with the fader. Chopping's alright (I tend to do a lot of it), but he seems to chop a snare in during the middle of a pad breakdown & IMO sounds amateurish.

Re: Who got to much praise

Bukem is quality and deserves a lot of the praise although I was chatting to a few known producers from back in the day who reckon he's a bit of poser - which i can see to be honest.
Watched that documentary about him, he's stuck to his guns and was making big money still to this day. He has never sold out, taking big record deals on his terms and turning some down. People called him a sellout, but am sure they would do the same and not turn down the chance to dj in superclubs in Tokyo etc. I've always rated him to this day. Saw him a few months back and he still smashes it.

I personally love his chopping with the fader. It's his own little signatuture thing which makes him unique from everyone else.Boy can he mix! :ymapplause:
If anyone has heard him clanging it up please let me know as i am yet to hear it? [music]

In all fairness i have heard a couple of decent pre 93 sets from him though!

Re: Who got to much praise

i have to agree with the majority dougal was ok at his art and was a genuine kinda guy by what i could gather from music press articles, but i thought his record choice was just to fucking happy,i love happy hardcore but it was the likes of dougal that made the genre far to cheesey, ooops i mean happy

that is only my opinian though guys, friends of mine loved the geezer, but just too anthem based for me

the thing that done my head in with the dougal generation of dj was imo they all played the majority of the time the same record selection only varying with how they mixed it,now i no this isnt the case, but certain djs especially if you have tape packs of that time and im talking 96/97 kinda always felt the same especially at the likes of dreamscape/skelter and i could list more...for me it just got a bit sickly

long live oldskool and the harder side of dance

Agree to all the above, I think thats why i got back into Oldksool as the Happy Hardcore became too sickly and also the Jump D&B a bit too generic/ forumaleric (spelling?) and I was more into Oldskool, Deeper sides of DnB (Metalheadz, Bukem, Ed Rush & Optical etc) and when it came to happy hardcore I got quite into the early freeform stuff that people like Ramos, Billy Bunter, Ostro & Levitate, DJ Fury etc were playing (didn't dj it - just liked it at the time).

Although it sounds disrespectful, but I think he was onyl rated after his tragic early death, like kind of a sympathy vote.

    IMO he was sh!t
