    woops pmsl Tune Leaker Exposed!!!!

A DNB based torrent site has put up hi quality torrents of my LP and Jem ones LP, at the moment these can only both be purchased from the 36 hertz store!! The funny thing is that because we have not even launched the site properly yet and have not been pushing it only 1 person has brought the Jem one LP in hi quality and this person also brought the vapour LP.
Unfortunately for this idiot he didnt know he is he only person to do so when he chose to upload the tracks to a torrent site. Even more stupid for him is that when he brought the tracks he gave us his address, phone number and email:

    So, this idiot is:

    Michael Fleet

<address and phone/email removed, BUT available on request to producers/labels who feel they have been harmed by this individuals actions. This fully complies with our privacy policy where we actively try to prevent further attempts of fraud, or bring to light past fraudulent dealings by people who are actively harming the industry.>

I know he definitely uploaded the files cos the cat number on the torrent is the 36 hertz shop cat number not the actual release cat number so it has come from the store and not from a promo mail out.

Now this puts me in an interesting situation as obviously piracy is a major pain in the arse for any label but for something like this to happen when you can actually find out who uploaded the files is a pretty rare thing to happen!

I will be speaking to him on the phone about this tomorrow so we shall see what happens but for the time being anyone that knows this idiot should know that he is a very prominant file sharer as his user name on the torrent site uploads a lot of music from labels ( 337 'releases' at the last count )

What i have done is got screen grabs of most of the music he has uploaded to the torrent site which you can view or download here as a PDF:

    view - http://www.36hertz.com/Doc1.pdf

    download - http://www.36hertz.com/Doc1.rar

Now as you can see he has been a busy boy leaking lots of music so ill be passing the list and his contact info on to as many of the labels as possible and they can also speak to him about it
the interesting thing is that he actually runs a label himself called deep science recordings so find it funny that he is trying to make money from running a label whilst leaking everyone elses music onto the net.

I'll be contacting the artists on his label to let them know what he has been up to as im sure they will want to know whats going on.

If ive tagged you in this note its cos your label or music is on the list of stuff he has been sharing feel free to give me a shout for more info.

Anyone else reading this please feel free to share this note and spread the word about this little **** cos its shit like this that really has an effect on music sales.

UPDATE: It should be pointed out for the naysayers, pro piracy retards, and DB9 fuckwits that Michael Fleet, aka, TheFuture, has fully admitted his actions. The matter is being dealt with.

I cant see how you can stop this shit, for everyone you track down there's plenty more uploading Old/New Music be that any genre of any era not matter how big the artist is.

Naughty, but someone which goes on all the time. At least the guy actually bought the track and didn't just steal it. Should the people who grab that track for free be the ones who have their hands slapped and names published all over the internet?

There is right and wrong here. What annoys me most about all this file sharing stuff is certain artists who condemn it, yet these same artists who were once struggling musicians and wanted to promote their work, loved the fact that the internet gave them this huge platform to use for free. Then they get the fame and recognition and suddenly file sharing is the work of the devil and must be stamped out.

There are 2 types of file sharer. Those that are real music lovers, who continue to support artists and producers by spending money on their work on a regular basis. They want to share this stuff with other music lovers/like minded folks who do the same thing as them. A group of mates swapping tapes etc, like everyone use to do.

Then there is the other side, those who take, take take and ever give anything back. The majority call themselves music lovers yet never buy anything themselves. These are the kind of folk who complain that someone is using a file host you have to pay for, rather than a free file file host like mediafire. These people are leeches and the lowest of the low when it comes to file sharing because they never give anything, they only take.

It's a massive debate this and I don't think there is a right or wrong way.

Is it so wrong for someone to buy something and pass it on to a a few friends to listen to and enjoy?

Yes this guy used a torrent, which is leecher city, but would this still be a massive wrong if this guy had put it on a site for a group of friends? or if it is shared by email to a group of friends?

As long as you fall into the first category of people, then I don't really see anything wrong with it.

If you fall into the second category, then you can be put on the top of a bonfire and we can all have a rave while watching you burn.

    my tuppence worth.....

i reckon everybody who has heard a song and can remember how it goes should be shot for copyright infringement. they could easily whistle it as they are on a bus or in the street where other people might hear it, or worst still they could play it to thier mates who would then own a perfect copy on thier personal hard drive (brain)
the worst of these offenders are dj's that play these tunes out to countless people on a weekly/nightly basis to potentially hundreds of personal hard drives (brains)

removal of these personal hard drives would be the only way to stop piracy. either that or just sell one format that is nigh on impossible to illegally copy (cassette)

I think the removal of brains has already happened though Euphoria.....haven't you ever watched Jeremy Kyle and the X-Faxtor...or at least associated with the people who watch them?

There's brain removal right there my friend.

    Not quite so true...

On these type sites, you have to seed (Share back) as much as you download... If you are there to just 'leech' you get banned, simple as.

You get a stats ratio to abide by and keep to. You need to maintain at least a 1:1 ratio of how much you download to how much you share back. Good system if you ask me, keeps all the parasites out lol.

    Just my view anyways...

    Interesting one this.

Oldskool aside i'd imagine that 99% of us are guilty of grabbing something ilegally, whether it be mp3, films, s/w, whatever.

When it comes to films i couldn't give 2 hoots. When they can justify paying some 2-bob A-lister $20 million for 80 minutes of pish then i might think different - till then its fair game if u ask me.

The Mp3's thing i feel a bit different about. The oldskool is also fair game as far as i'm concerned - the newer stuff tho i'm a bit split on. I've received tunes that are still being sold - i've even been guilty of passing them on to the odd friend here & there.I also buy new music - not as much as i'd like or should - but i do it.

I justify it to myself like this: the tune thats been passed to me has been paid for. The person that has passed it to me is not sharing it with the world & his dog. If i like said tune i'll give it airtime - therefore introducing it to an audience who otherwise may not have heard it - which, in turn, may nudge a listener into buying said tune, or at least creating interest in a genre that may not have been there before.

If i then pass that tune on it would be to a VERY select 1 or 2 - people in the same position as myself - who are willing to play that tune to an audience. Now, i'm not justifying myself by saying i'm a radio DJ, therefore i should be allowed to do this - wot i am saying is that there's a possibility that the airtime these tunes get could generate more sales for said artist. Bit like oldskool has said, could be beneficial in the long run. They may not have received my dollar for the tune - but me owning & playing it could well earn them dollar from someone else.

I read a thread on another forum recently where a producer is giving away much of his back catalogue for free. Reason being, he's seeing his tunes appear on websites etc for sale without his permission. Now surely thats a hell of a lot worse than a few friends sharing what they consider to be a great piece of music.

dodders thats what im saying i just hope its right as i dont own a label and dont pay to put out my tunes i can see why labels dont like it but at the same time it is just the same as a tape bitd and look how many vinyl we all own know because we got a tape off a mate bitd and liked the tunes on it

im still trying to buy stuff now that i found on here, and thats thanks to you lovely people sharing because i didnt have a clue what it was till i got the info from a shared file plus the fact that i can have a mix with the mp3 helps alot too and whats even darker is i would more then likely be buying from ebay or discogs or someone selling there vinyl and im sure that the labels wouldnt get a cut from them

as for old and new if you could show me a shop that sold all the oldskool on here i would be in there for rest of my life buying shit

as for new stuff as dodders said (I justify it to myself like this: the tune thats been passed to me has been paid for. The person that has passed it to me is not sharing it with the world & his dog. If i like said tune i'll give it airtime - therefore introducing it to an audience who otherwise may not have heard it - which, in turn, may nudge a listener into buying said tune, or at least creating interest in a genre that may not have been there before.)

It's worth bearing in mind the geezer uploaded the tunes mentioned to a torrent site where thousands of people can bag the tune pretty much anonymously.... I think it's a different scenario uploading tunes to a site like this where links are hidden to non-members.

i dont think that matters (torrent/site) its still sharing, anonymously or not you still downloaded it free
point is if i dont make money form sells no label will want to waste money putting out my tunes so i need you to buy my stuff from a shop or site !
thats it downloads that are free will not help me or the label even if your a member of this site im sure iaao dont want to pay me for youre downloads lol just because youre a member here im not being a dick im just saying it dont matter

like dodders said If i like said tune i'll give it airtime - therefore introducing it to an audience who otherwise may not have heard it - which, in turn, may nudge a listener into buying said tune, or at least creating interest in a genre that may not have been there before.

    i see it like this:
maybe a pirate radio dj will download my tune free and play (promote) it on radio
    i dont get paid
but the people that heard him might like it and buy it
    i do get paid

its a hard one because its hard to earn good money on record sells because of mp3s but at the same time more people might be playing youre music because of mp3s lol
as long as people somewhere buy it you should be good

TRUST...... if i had commented or had ANYTHING to do with that site, my name, URL, etc would be ALL OVER IT.

cheers for the quick reply and salute

TBH.... being a NEW DNB hater........ that debate is not for me to comment on.... as imo... its total tosh....... but thats personal taste of the genre.... not a debate about sharing new music.

    imho..................

we live in the age of the internet..... ALL new tunes and genres and artists owe everything to the net, file sharing etc to get the exposure......... as people dont confrigate in record shops anymore......

though i have paid for new tunes on the j-tek (that lasted long didnt it) hardcore breaks, rave breaks TIPS........... like films....... i want to hear it for my sel and make my own opinion up before i part with my hard erned cash to pay for it...

if its good enough.... im more than happy to hand over.. if its utta toss or just not woth the dolla..... tried but didnt buy..............

and remember............ those that got it for free... yet didnt like it enough to pay for it... still may play it..

we live in a totaly diff world today.......... the old ways are gone..... unless your gonna make money from other sources and sell vinyl presses to vinyl djs and collectors...... your gonna find everything on the net....FROM RUSSIA

and is it realy a bad thing?????

i dunno......... everything i do gets given away for free.........

its a debate that will roll on for a LONG TIME.... with lots of diff sides and stances...

all i can say is......... if i like what ya done so much to pay for it..... i will..... if i dont.. i wont....... but the respect will always be given for the effort and love gone into it....AS IT ALWAYS SHOULD
