I am guilty of not paying for some music over the past 6 months, since I knew I was getting serato. But for the previous 81 years I have been buying vinyl so I reckon I have paid my way
I can see the arguement from both sides though. Saying that, the fact not many ppl had vinyl cutters is the very reason I tried to stay vinyl only for so many years, ie I knew vinyl was really the only way that an artist could get his royalties for a track released because you couldnt really copy a vinyl to another vinyl without great expense which kinda made it extremely uncommon (unless the original tune was really rare and bootlegs were made up).
Technology is to blame for piracey now, its the fault of the music industry as a whole, for pushing out music in digital forms that can be easily copied instead of supporting vinyl.

Have had a few pints of cider tonite, so forgive the unfocused addition to the debate here.

A very tricky debate this one, but I try and stick to only downloading MP3's which are of obsolete labels, or of tracks which have'nt seen the light of a repress or digital release. Allthough I am guilty of ripping and sharing tracks which have now been made available in digital format, I stick to the belief that if you are a true music lover you will either buy the remastered digital track or hunt down the vinyl.

I do share my rips and MP3 downloads on the likes of SoulSeek, but do share the belief that when it comes to albums and vinyl which I've purchased from smaller labels, especially smaller scenes like hardcore breaks. It is detrimental to the artists involved to share these. I have a specific folder on my hard drive labelled 'Not For Sharing' specifically created to store these files.

I know how hypocritical all that sounds, but I feel that we all should be supporting up and coming producers, especially if the are the flagbearers for smaller scenes.

There's different people who use music off the internet differently imo, people who buy music from download stores take pride in purchasing a piece of music for a measily quid when they will have to pay a fiver for it on vinyl, putting that tune or album on a torrent site is no different from a Dj playing it on radio, cheapskates will rip music anyway and would never have payed, I think people who buy music appreciate paying for it, so it makes no difference really, probably gives the artist more exposure if anything.
